As a Person of God • Eli was found where he belonged (sitting by the tabernacle) doing what he was supposed to be doing (1 Sam. 1: 9). • Was not afraid to speak up and rebuke displeasing behavior (1 Sam. 1: 12 -14). • He was able to be reasoned with (1 Sam. 1: 17). • Appealed to God through worship (1 Sam. 1: 17).

As a Person of God • The word of the LORD was not as prevalent at that time, yet Eli is perceptive (1 Sam. 3: 8 -9). • He wanted to know the LORD’s words to Samuel, though he perceived it would not be favorable toward him (1 Sam. 3: 17). • Was wise to accept God’s judgment on him & his house (1 Sam. 3: 18). • Was troubled over the ark of God being taken into battle; news of it being captured shocked him the most of all the news (1 Sam. 4: 13, 17 -18).

Only those who obey God will receive salvation from sin (Mt. 7: 21; Heb. 5: 9) • Hear the gospel of Jesus Christ (Rom. 10: 14, 17). • Believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 16: 30 -33). • Repent of all your past sins (Acts 17: 30 -31). • Confess your faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 8: 35 -37). • Be baptized (immersed in water) into Jesus Christ (Acts 8: 38; 22: 16). • After becoming saved, live a faithful/righteous life to remain saved (1 Tim. 4: 16; 1 Jn. 1: 7). • Eternal life in heaven awaits only those who are faithful/righteous (1 Pet. 1: 3 -5; Mt. 25: 34).
