Examples of Symbolism in Eveline The sea: it is both the way towards a future of salvation from a squalid destiny but also the symbol of the danger she imagines to exist outside her house.
Examples of Symbolism in Eveline Dust: The first glimpse we get of the main character in James Joyce’s “Eveline” is as she “leaned against the window curtains” smelling the “dusty cretonne”. This reinforces our understanding that Eveline is living in a dreary, suffocating life.
