Aims and Objectives The Simpsons clips showed emotions through body language and expression; this is theme for this lesson • Identify examples of Show Not Tell, analysing the effect of this technique. • Work in a small group, analysing body language and its different meanings. • Write a detailed description of character, employing a number of literary techniques; • Evaluate each others work, identifying positive features and give each other targets for improvement.
Extract Reading • First Reading: Shared reading with the class. • Second Reading: Pupils act out the extract to show body language helps description. Begin with individuals acting out and change to the whole class acting out sir George Herbert’s character.

Writing Task You must now write a piece describing a character. Remember: § § Posture Expression Dress Movement You may choose your own setting, but everything must add and enhance the understanding of character. Choose whether to work from a picture or create your own monstrous character!

Dracula Stimulus It was a strong face with peculiar arched nostrils and high domed forehead. His eyebrows were massive. The mouth was fixed and rather cruel looking, with sharp white teeth. For the rest, his lips were pale and at the tops extremely pointed, the chin was broad and strong, the cheeks firm though thin………………
STIMULUS Mark could do nothing but stare at her. She came closer and closer, until he could have reached up and touched her. She had a high forehead, and her hair was braided in strange, elaborate loops. She had no eyebrows, which made her face expressionless. But her eyes were extraordinary. Her eyes were like looking at death.
