Lesson Plans Materials Needed: • • • Book… Two of Everything by Lily Toy Hong Smart board Power Point slide show Paper for students to use Anchor chart paper to record student thinking Procedures: INTRODUCTION>>>Ask students to tell you what skill they have been working on in Math Workshop (skip counting) • Show them the book “Two of Everything” • Have students turn and talk…answering the questions…What do you think this book is going to be about? And how do you think it ties into our math skill this week? • Share out responses • Read the story • After listening to the story…use the power point � • Have the class solve the problem…What would happen if you put 3 paper clips into the magic pot? • Discuss and solve together as a class…How did you solve the problem? What strategy helped you? Is there another way of coming up with the solution? • Dismiss the students into their small groups…giving them chart paper to work on solving the following problem…. What would happen if you put 6 marbles into the magic pot? Use pictures, numbers or works to show you solved the problem. • Have students come back together to share their thinking…record what they say on an anchor chart… • CLOSURE>>>Revisit the skill being taught and how it tied into the story CHALLENGE and if time allows…. Would you rather have 1, 000 coins or 5 coins and a Magic Doubling Pot that works 10 times? ? ?
