MAN The Bible is not only a book about God; it is also about man. The Creation of Man - according to God’s Image and Likeness And God said Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them have dominion …. And God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created Him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1: 26 -27

Expression & Dominion God’s desire in creating man is that man would express and represent God. Image – Inward parts of man – Intangible Mind – Emotion – Will Likeness – Outward – Tangible And Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre …. And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and there were three men…. And Jehovah said to Abraham…. Genesis 18: 1 -2, 15

God gave us a free will to choose. … I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life… Deuteronomy 30: 19

MAN The Fall of Man The three steps in the process of the fall: Step 1. Man’s failure to use his spirit Step 2. Exercising of the soul – she used the faculties of her soul - her mind, emotion and will Step 3. Action of the body – the soul directs the body First, exercise your spirit! Your body will follow.

MAN The result of the fall: 1. The soul was polluted, corrupted and occupied 2. The body was changed in nature to the flesh (indwelling sin) – Romans 7: 17 3. Man’s spirit was deadened, losing its function 4. Fallen man constituted a sinner 5. Fallen man condemned 6. The Curse brought in 7. Man cast out of paradise 8. Death – man is destined to die

MAN The four steps of the fall: 1. The fall of Adam – Genesis 3 2. The fall of Cain – Genesis 4 3. Fallen angels on earth and judgement – Genesis 6 and 7 4. Babel – Genesis 11

SALVATION In God’s eternal plan, He foreordained that after man’s fall, Christ would accomplish redemption. In God’s view, Christ was slain from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13: 8). God’s Promise – the Seed of the Woman And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed; He will bruise you on the head, but you will bruise him on the heel. Genesis 3: 15

SALVATION God’s Promise – the Seed of Abraham But to Abraham were the promises spoken and to his seed. He does not say, And to the seeds, as concerning many, but as concerning one: “And to your seed, ” who is Christ. Galatians 3: 16

SALVATION Three Stages of Salvation: 1. The initial stage – Regeneration • Redemption, sanctification (positional), justification, reconciliation, regeneration 2. The progressing stage – Transformation • Freedom from sin, sanctification (mainly dispositional), growth in life, transformation, building up, and maturing 3. The completing stage – Consummation • Redemption (transfiguration) of our body, conformity to the Lord, glorification, inheritance of God’s kingdom, participation in Christ’s kingship, and the topmost enjoyment of the Lord

THE ETERNAL LIFE The definition of Eternal Life … to be regenerated is simply to receive God into us as our life, to receive a life that is divine, a life other than our human life. Laying hold of Eternal Life Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold on the eternal life, to which you were called and have confessed the good confession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6: 12

BELIEVERS Ø Baptism – to have an organic union with the processed Triune God Ø Regeneration – carried out by the Spirit and makes us the children of God and the members of Christ Ø Growth – Renewing, transformation, conformation, and glorification Ø Function – bearing fruit for the increase of Christ

BELIEVERS But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people acquired for a possession, so that you may tell out the virtues of Him who has called you out of darkness into His wonderful light 1 Peter 2: 9

SUMMARY Ø Man - key topic in the bible; the center of God’s plan, but man is fallen and needs God’s salvation Ø Salvation – God has prepared a complete salvation through His Son Ø Eternal Life – Zoe – indestructible, incorruptible life of God Ø Believers – we are growing in life to function as normal members of the body of Christ
