Theme • Just as certainly as Christ came in fulfillment of prophecy the first time, He will come again. • The promise of this event is a source of comfort and hope for the believer.
I. The Parables about Christ’s Return A. The Master Returning from the Wedding 1. Pre-parable – warning to be prepared 2. Master returns from a wedding 3. Servants are ready no matter the hour, he knocks and they open the door 4. Christ could come at any hour and will be pleased if we are ready.
I. The Parables about Christ’s Return B. The Good man and the Thief (Matt. 24: 43 -44) 1. A good man has his house broken into 2. If he had known the time, he would have set an extra guard 3. Christ could come at anytime, we must be ready
I. The Parables about Christ’s Return C. The Wise and the Wicked Servants (Matt. 24: 45 -51) 1. Wise servant is in charge of paying the other servants and he is doing a good job when the master returns – master gives him more responsibilities 2. Thinking the master will not return soon, unwise servant beats the other servants and gets drunk, master returns when he is not expecting it, punishment with weeping and gnashing of teeth. 3. Christ will return when we lest expect it…will we be ready?
I. The Parables about Christ’s Return D. The 10 Virgins (Matt. 25: 1 -13) 1. Wedding, procession from bride house to groom house, friends join on the way 2. 5 ready – torches, oil, extra oil 3. 5 not ready, tried to borrow, had to go buy, missed the procession, shut of the house/party 4. When Christ returns, those that are not ready (saved) will be shut out.

Servants all have different jobs, but must do them while the master is away because they don’t know when he will return. 2. We must be faithful in what Christ has asked us to do because we do not know when He will return.
II. The Timing of Christ’s Return A. Imminent 1. Wick servant said, “My lord delays his coming” Christ could return at any moment B. Uncertain 1. “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh” C. Sudden 1. “lord suddenly appears” “virgins were sleeping when the procession was 2. “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” (1 Cor. 15: 52) upon them”
III. Preparing for Christ’s Return A. Salvation 1. Difference between wise and unwise virgins was preparation. B. Service A. The wise servant was faithfully doing what the master had told him, we should be faithfully serving as we watch for His return C. Watchfulness 1. the wicked servant was not watching, the faithful porter watched, the good man was robbed because he did not watch – we should watch for His return
