The Purpose!! You have learned how to solve repeated addition problems. Today, you will learn how drawing a picture will help you solve word problems.
Connect!!!! Five students stand in the front of the class. Each child has 3 crayons. How can you solve a problem that asks how many crayons these children have in all? What would the addition sentence look like?
The Problem!! Number 1: There are four tables in a classroom. Three children sit at each table. How many children are there in all? Draw a picture on page 113 and write a number sentence to solve this problem.
Let’s Explore!! (page 113) Number 2: If 5 flowers have 4 petals each, how many petals are there is all?
