The Purpose!! You have learned how to use counters to show repeated addition Today, you will model arrays to show repeated addition sentences.

Connect!!!! How many rows are there? How many desks are in each row? This is an array!

The Problem!! • Show this arrangement of counters on your workmat on page 105. • This is an array. • It has the same number of counters in each row. • It also has the same number of counters in each column. • We can write an addition sentence to show this array. 5 + 5 = 15

Let’s Explore!! (page 105) • Model 2 rows with 4 counters in each row. • Write an addition sentence for number one. • Model 3 rows with 3 counters in each row. • Write an addition sentence for number two. • Model 3 rows with 2 counters in each row. • Write an addition sentence for number three.
