Lesson 3 2 Complex Numbers Complex Number Any
Lesson 3 -2 Complex Numbers
Complex Number • Any number that can be written in the form a + bi • The real part is a • The imaginary part is b • If the a is zero the number is in the set of imaginary numbers and complex numbers • If the b is zero the number is in the set of real numbers and complex numbers • If both a and b are non zero the number is only in the set of complex numbers
Identifying real and imaginary part of complex numbers • Real part ________ • Imaginary part______ • Set of numbers_______
Example • Real part ________ • Imaginary part______ • Set of numbers_______
You Try • Real Part _________ • Imaginary Part_______ • Set of Numbers_______
Adding and subtracting Complex numbers • When adding and subtracting complex numbers we add and subtract the real parts and imaginary parts(combine like terms) • If parenthesis is proceeded by a subtraction change all sign in that parenthesis • If parenthesis is proceeded by an addition just take away parenthesis • Combine all like terms real part with real part and imaginary part with imaginary part
