Lesson 11 Belief in the Messengers and Prophets
Lesson 11 Belief in the Messengers and Prophets
• Allah has selected prophets for guiding people in every era and every place
• Some of the prophets are messengers sent by Allah to proclaim His Messages and Books.
• The Qur’an mentioned twenty five prophets, first of whom is Adam and the last is Muhammad.
• Among the prophets there are messengers endowed with resolve: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad.
• Allah supported His messengers with tangible miracles, while the continuous great miracle of Islam is the Holy Qur’an
• The prophets are infallible in their morality and truthfulness in conveying the propagation. They are of different ranks, but the best of them is the Seal of Messengers.
• Prophethood and the holy message were terminated with the advent of Prophet Muhammad; all those who claim other than that are liars and renegades of the faith of Islam, e. g. the followers of Baha’ism and Qadianism.
• The essence of all messages is one, i. e. , Islam (submission to Allah).
• Islam is the religion of instinct.
• All messengers regarded each other as true in their propagation. Moses and Jesus gave the good tidings of Muhammad’s propagation.
• Belief in all prophets without exception is a pillar of faith.
• Belief in Muhammad’s Prophethood is half of the Islamic creed “There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad is the Pro phet of Allah”.
Proofs on the Lesson from Qur’an and Sunnah
The Prophets have been sent to all nations: Allah says: ﻥ ﻳﺍ ﺍ ﻳ ﻳﺍ ﺧﻼ ﻻ [24 : ]ﻓﺎﻃﺮ
This means: “Verily! We have sent you with the truth, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner. And there never was a nation but a warner had passed among them. ” (35, Fatir: 24)
This means: “And for every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes, the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged. ” (10, Yunus: 47)
This means: “And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i. e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah). ” (16, An Nahl: 36)
This means: “And Messengers We have mentioned to you before, and Messengers We have not mentioned to you, and to Musa (Moses) Allah spoke directly. Messengers as bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that mankind should have no plea against Allah after the Messengers. And Allah is Ever All Powerful, All Wise.
This means: “And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to give warning). ” (17, Al Isra’: 15)
This means: “Allah chose Adam, Nuh (Noah), the family of Ibrahim (Abraham) and the family of 'Imran above the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns) (of their times). ” (Surah Al `Imran: 33)
This means: “ And that was Our Proof which We gave Ibrahim (Abraham) against his people. We raise whom We will in degrees. Certainly your Lord is All Wise, All Knowing. And We bestowed upon him Is haq (Isaac) and Ya'qub (Jacob), each of them We guided, and before him, We guided Nuh (Noah), and among his progeny Dawud (David), Sulayman (Solomon), Ayub (Job), Yusuf (Joseph), Musa (Moses), and Harun (Aaron). Thus do We reward the good doers.
And Zakariyya (Zachariya), and Yahya (John) and 'Isa (Jesus) and Iliyas (Elias), each one of them was of the righteous. And Isma'il (Ishmael) and Al Yas'a (Elisha), and Yunus (Jonah) and Lout (Lot), and each one of them We preferred above the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns) (of their times). And also some of their fathers and their progeny and their brethren, We chose them, and We guided them to a Straight Path. ” (Surah Al An`am: 83 87)
This means: “And to 'Ad (people, We sent) their brother Hud. …” (Surah Al A`raf: 65 66)
This means: “And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). …” (Surah Al A`raf: 73)
This means: “And (remember) Lout (Lot), when he said to his people: "Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns)? …” (Surah Al A`raf: 80 81)
This means: “And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), (We sent) their brother Shu'ayb. …” (Al A`raf: 85)
The verse means: “Then after them We sent Musa (Moses) with Our Signs to Fir'awn (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, …” (Surah Al A`raf: 103)
This means: “And has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? …” (Surah Taha: 9 98)
This means: “And (remember) Ayub (Job), when he cried to his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy. '' So We answered his call, and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him (that he had lost), and the like thereof along with them, as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all who worship Us. ” (Surah Al Anbiya’: 83 84)
This means: “And (remember) Isma'il (Ishmael), and Idris (Enoch) and Dhul Kifl (Isaiah). ” (Surah Al Anbiya’: 85 86)
Meaning: “And (remember) Dhan Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him …” (21, Al Anbiya’: 87 88)
This means: “And (remember) Zakariyya (Zachariah), when he cried to his Lord: "O My Lord! Leave me not single (childless), though You are the Best of the inheritors. So We answered his call, and We bestowed upon him Yahya (John), and cured his wife (to bear a child) for him. Verily, they used to hasten on to do good deeds, and they used to call on Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before Us.
And (remember) she who guarded her chastity [Virgin Maryam (Mary)], We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) [through Our Ruh Jibrael (Gabriel)], and We made her and her son ['Isa (Jesus)] a sign for Al 'Alamin (the mankind and jinns). Truly! This, your Ummah [Shari`ah or religion (Islamic Monotheism)] is one religion, and I am your Lord, therefore worship Me (Alone). ” (Surah Al Anbiya’: 89 92)
This means: “And mention in the Book (the Qur'an) Ibrahim (Abraham). Verily! He was a man of truth, a Prophet. …” (Surah Maryam: 41 50)
This means: “Those were they unto whom Allah bestowed His Grace from among the Prophets, of the offspring of Adam, and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nuh (Noah), and of the offspring of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Israel and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the Verses of the Most Beneficent (Allah) were recited unto them, they fell down prostrating and weeping. ” (Surah Maryam: 58)
There are many other stories of the prophets in the Holy Qur’an.
Messengers with resolve: Allah says: ﻝ ﺍﻟ ﺍ ﻭﺍ ﺍ ﺍ [35 : ]ﺍﻷﺤﻘﺎﻑ
This means: “So endure patiently as • the Messengers endowed with resolve (endured) patiently. ” (4, Al Ahqaf: 35) •
This means: “He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islamic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammed SAW) hate (it). ” (Surah As Saff: 9)
This means: “This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. ” (5, Al Ma’idah: 3)
This means: “Muhammad (SAW) is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the last (end) of the Prophets. ” (Surah Al Ahzab: 40)
The Prophet (PBUH) said: “My similitude in comparison with the other prophets before me, is that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a place of one brick in a corner. The people go about it and wonder at its beauty, but say, 'Would that this brick be put in its place!' So I am that brick, and I am the last of the Prophets. ” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
In another hadith he (PBUH) said: I have many names: I am Muhammad, I am “ Ahmad, I am Al Mahi through whom Allah obliterates unbelief, and I am Al Hashir (the gatherer) at whose feet people will be gathered, and I am Al `Aqib (after whom there would be none). ” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
This means: “And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad SAWS) but We inspired him (saying): La ilaha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah)], so worship Me (Alone and none else). ” (Surah Al Anbiya’: 25)
This means: “Verily, those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers and wish to make distinction between Allah and His Messengers (by believing in Allah and disbelieving in His Messengers) saying, ''We believe in some but reject others, '' and wish to adopt a way in between. They are in truth disbelievers. ” (Surah An Nisa’: 150 151)
which means: “Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. ” (Surah Al `Imran: 19)
And look at the supplication of Abraham in these Qur’anic verses: ﴾ ﻧ ﻥ ﺍﺍ ﺍ * ﺍﻳ ﻳ ﺍﻟ ﻧ ﺍ ﺍ ﺍﻳ [128 -127 : ]ﺍﻟﺒﻘﺮﺓ
The verses mean: And as Abraham (Ibrahîm) raised up the foundations of the Home and Isma'il (Ishmael) (with him), (saying), “Our Lord, (graciously) accept (this) from us. Surely You, Ever You, are The Ever Hearing, The Ever Knowing; Our Lord, and make us (both) Muslims (i. e. surrendered) to You, and of our offspring a nation Muslim to You. (Surah Al Baqarah: 127 128)
This means: “And this (submission to Allah, Islam) was enjoined by Ibrahim (Abraham) upon his sons and by Ya'qub (Jacob) (saying), "O my sons! Allah has chosen for you the (true) religion, then die not except in the Faith of Islam (as Muslims Islamic Monotheism). ” (2, Al Baqarah: 132)
This means: “Say (O Muslims), "We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma'il (Ishmael), Is haq (Isaac), Ya'qub (Jacob), and to Al Asbat (the offspring of the twelve sons of Ya'qub (Jacob)) and that which has been given to Musa (Moses) and 'Isa (Jesus), and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam). "” (Surah Al Baqarah: 136)
Ponder on Moses words to his people as reported in this verse: ﻭﺍ ﺍﻟ آﻡ ﻧ ﻥ ﺍ ﻭﻯ ﺍ ﴾ ﻳ ﻧﻡ ﻥ [84: ]ﻳﻮﻧﺲ
This means: “And Musa (Moses) said: "O my people! If you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to Allah's Will). ” (Surah Yunus: 84)
This means: “Surely We sent down the Tawrah (Torah), wherein there is a guidance and a light, thereby the Prophets who had become Muslims (Literally: who had surrendered themselves to Allah) gave judgment to the ones who Judaized, …” (Surah Al Ma’idah: 44)
The very words of Yusuf (Joseph) were: ﴾ ﺍﻳ ﺍﻟ ﻯ ﺍ ﻯ [101 : ]ﻳﻮﺳﻒ
This means: “Cause me to die as a Muslim (the one submitting to Your Will), and join me with the righteous. ” (Surah Yusuf: 101)
This means: “But if you turn away [from accepting my doctrine of Islamic Monotheism, i. e. to worship none but Allah], then no reward have I asked of you, my reward is only from Allah, and I have been commanded to be one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allah's Will). ” (Surah Yunus: 72)
In his letter to Balqis, Solomon says: ﴾ ﻳ ﻭﻯ ﻭﺍ ﻻ [31 : ]ﺍﻟﻨﻤﻞ
This means: “Be you not exalted against me, but come to me as Muslims (true believers who submit to Allah with full submission). ” (Surah An Naml: 31)
Then, she embraced Islam and said: ﴾ ﺍﺍﻳ ﺍ ﻯ ﻯ [44 : ]ﺍﻟﻨﻤﻞ
Meaning: “My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, and I submit (in Islam, together with Sulayman (Solomon), to Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). ” (Surah An Naml: 44)
This means: “So set you (O Muhammad SAW) your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism Hanifa (worship none but Allah Alone) Allah's Fitrah (i. e. Allah's Islamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in Khalq illah (i. e. the Religion of Allah Islamic Monotheism), that is the straight religion, but most of men know not. ” (Surah Ar Rum: 30)
The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i. e. , to worship none but Allah Alone) and his parents convert him to Judaism, Christianity, or Magianism. ” (Reported by Al Bukhari)
The Glad Tidings of the Coming of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the Previously Revealed Books: Allah says: ﺍ ﺍﻭﺍ ﻯ ﻯ ﺍ ﺍ ﻭ ﺍ ﺍ ﻥ آﻡ ﺍ ﻳ ﺍﻟ ﻳﺍ ﺍﻟ ﴾ ﺍﻳ ﺍﻟ ﻡ ﺍ ﺍﻭﺍ ﺍ [81: ﻋﻤﺮﺍﻥ ]آﻞ
This means: “And (remember) when Allah took the Covenant of the Prophets, saying: "Take whatever I gave you from the Book and Hikmah (understanding of the Laws of Allah, etc. ), and afterwards there will come to you a Messenger (Muhammad SAWS) confirming what is with you; you must, then, believe in him and help him. " Allah said: "Do you agree (to it) and will you take up My Covenant (which I conclude with you)? " They said: "We agree. " He said: "Then bear witness; and I am with you among the witnesses (for this). ''” (Surah Al `Imran: 81)
This means: “Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i. e. Muhammad SAW) whom they find written with them in the Tawrah (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel). ” (Surah Al A`raf: 157)
This means: “And (remember) when 'Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: "O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah unto you confirming the Tawrah [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad. ” (Surah As Saff: 6)
