Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • The origin of truth – From God • “But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God” (John 8: 40). – Through Jesus Christ • “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1: 17). – By the Holy Spirit • “the Spirit of truth…” (John 14: 17) • “…the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me” (John 15: 26). • “…when He, the Spirit of truth, has come” (Jn. 16: 13).
Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • What is truth? – His Word • “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1: 8). • “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us” (1 John 1: 10). – The Word of God • “…I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one” (1 John 2: 14). • “…because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever” (2 John 2).
Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • What is truth? – His Word (1 John 1: 8 ~ 1 John 1: 10) – The Word of God (1 John 2: 14 ~ 2 John 2) – Righteousness • “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth” (1 John 1: 6). • “If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him” (1 John 2: 29). • “…He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous” (1 John 3: 7).
Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • What is truth? – His Word (1 John 1: 8 ~ 1 John 1: 10) – The Word of God (1 John 2: 14 ~ 2 John 2) – Righteousness (1 John 1: 6 ~ 1 John 2: 29; 3: 7) – The doctrine of Christ • • “…the people were astonished at His teaching” (Mt. 7: 28). “…His doctrine” (John 18: 19) “…I tell the truth…tell you the truth” (John 8: 45 -46; 16: 7) “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine…” (2 John 9 -10).

Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • What is truth? – His Word (1 John 1: 8 ~ 1 John 1: 10) – The Word of God (1 John 2: 14 ~ 2 John 2) – Righteousness (1 John 1: 6 ~ 1 John 2: 29; 3: 7) – The doctrine of Christ (Mt. 7: 28; Jn. 18: 19; 8: 45 -46; 2 Jn. 9 -10) – His commandments (1 John 2: 4) – Your Word is truth (John 17: 17) • “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17: 17).
Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • There is absolute truth! – 67 times in the NT – “the truth” – “Then Jesus said…’And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’” (John 8: 32). – “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14: 6). – “…you know [the truth], and that no lie is of the truth” (1 John 2: 21). – “…we know that we are of the truth…” (3: 19) – “…the truth…will be with us forever” (2 John 2). – We have been given “all truth” (Jn. 16: 13; 2 Pet. 1: 3, 21).
Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • There is absolute truth! – Does God ever teach/tell us to: • Know A truth? • Believe A truth? • Obey A truth? • Practice A truth? • Teach A truth? • Abide in A truth? • Walk in A truth? • Stand for A truth? • Love A truth? • Study A truth? • Work for A truth? • Worship in A truth? • Rejoice in A truth? – God’s truth is THE truth. – His truth is absolute!
Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • Truth can be known – It is God’s will for all men to know the truth • “…[God] desires all men…to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2: 4). • “…after we have received the knowledge of the truth” (Heb. 10: 26). • “I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it…” (1 John 2: 21). • “…but also all those who have known the truth” (2 John 1). • “And you shall know the truth…” (John 8: 32). – To know it, we must study it, rightly divide it and accurately handle it (2 Tim. 2: 15).
Absolute Truth Exists & Can Be Known • Truth sanctifies those who obey – “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. . . And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth” (John 17: 17 -19). – “…and the truth shall make you free” (John 8: 32). – “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation…” (Eph. 1: 13). – “…. receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved” (2 Thess. 2: 10). – Obvious if one is “of the truth” or not.
