APUSH Syllabus: • • • My Expectations – Students should come to class on time and with the proper materials including the Tablet fully charged. I recommend but do not require a working keyboard. We will type extensively in the course. The essays will be timed. If you do not finish an essay because it was difficult to type on your tablet, you will not be able to redo the essay. Students should complete all textbook and outside readings nightly. Students may NOT work with another student on any assignment, test, or quiz unless explicitly stated in the assignment. If a student is unsure on whether they can or cannot get help from another student, they MUST ask or e-mail Mr. Buffmire prior to receiving help. Students may not talk about any test or quiz in anyway. The ONLY exception is guided class notes if you have been absent. The guided class notes still MUST be in YOUR OWN HANDWRITING but can be copied from another student.

• • • Students will not copy or plagiarize any work turned into my class. Study groups are encouraged but the information on any assignment, quiz, test, essay, etc… must be your own. If you have been assigned to a group for an assignment, you may not discuss the assignment with any other group. The guided notes will mostly be covered in class. If Mr. Buffmire does not cover the guided notes in class it is still the student’s responsibility to use the book or outside resources to complete the notes. If a student is absent for any reason (sickness or activity) it is their responsibility to complete the guided notes on their own. (They may work with another student on guided notes) Late work will not be accepted for any extracurricular activities (Athletics, Arts, Music, Miss Providence, yearly Musical, Dance, etc…) All assignments must be uploaded to Canvas prior to the activity. Makeup quizzes and tests for absences must be completed within 3 days of last day of absence. Students, even if absent for medical reasons, should try to do the online assignments. Please see Mr. Buffmire within 3 days after your absence if an acute sickness or emergency made it not possible to complete an assignment. All work to turn-in should be saved on their computer and uploaded as a pdf. It is YOUR responsibility to check to make sure it has properly uploaded.

• • • Students should come to class prepared with questions, comments, and ideas from previous lessons and outside readings. Students should take the initiative to attend Activities (HELPs) classes immediately when difficulty arises. It is YOUR responsibility to check your grades daily. Students should work in partnership with Mr. Buffmire as a cooperative and independent learner at the college level and prepare themselves fully for the AP exam. Classroom Issues – We will follow the school rules at all times. Please treat my classroom with respect and help me to keep it neat and clean. At Providence School, students are not permitted to bring food inside the classroom and possession of such is cause for immediate disciplinary action. Since you are Juniors, I will treat you as mature young adults unless you violate this trust. I will respect you and expect your respect in return. Please do not use class time to sleep or work on assignments for another class. Also, during teacher led discussions you are expected to be actively paying attention and quiet. You will need all of your attention during my class to learn American history. Any problems with behavior will be directed to the appropriate administrator.
