Penrose's Academy of Art”, para estudar desenho e pintura. Retornou à Inglaterra e frequentou a “Chelsea School of Art” e mais tarde a “Academy of Amédée Ozenfant”.
No México, ela escreveu e publicou vários livros. Biography: Leonora Carrington was born in Chorley, England, on April 6, 1917, in a wealthy British family. Educated by governesses and tutors, the young Leonora went through several schools governed by religious, but his rebellious spirit was so peculiar that she couln't adapt herself to any of them, until his family decided to send her to Florence, where he joined "Mrs. Penrose's Academy of Art", to study drawing and painting. She returned to England where she attended the "Chelsea School of Art" and later the "Academy of Amédée Ozenfant". In 1936 she met Max Ernst in London, and together they went to France where they lived two years, participating, with other figures of the surrealistic movement, in the "Exhibition of International Surrealism, " presented in Amsterdam and Paris in 1938. With the outbreak of World War II, the romance ended tragically with Ernst being persecuted by the Nazis. In 1940, Leonora fled Franco's Spain, where, amid an enormous strain, she suffered an outbreak and, on orders from her family, was admitted to a mental hospital in the northern city of Santander, but she escaped and went to Lisbon, where she met Renato Leduc, a Mexican writer, with whom she moved to Mexico in 1941. This country was a huge influence on their screens because it has a variety of indigenous cultures and pre-Hispanic times. In Mexico, she wrote and published several books. In 1944 she met her late husband, the Hungarian photographer Emericz Chiki Weisz, jewish, and they had two children. The first major exhibition of her work occurred in 1947 in "Pierre Matisse Gallery", in New York. She spent part of the 1960 s in New York and later in Chicago, eventually returning to Mexico. In 1995, Leonora saw her life to be represented in the film "Carrington", directed by Christopher Hampton. In 2010 she participated in a major Surrealist exhibition in "Chichester's Pallantia House Gallery" in England. Leonora died in Mexico City on May 25, 2011. Tetraptic, 1997
Aardvark Groomed by Widows, 1997 Imaginary worlds, everyday images and symbolism of different cultures and beliefs are just some elements of the work of Leonora Carrington that lead the viewer to look at her painting so reflective and mystic. Appreciated by many, Leonora was considered one of the last original artists of surrealism, especially in art with its sculptures and paintings and fantastic dream worlds.
