LENT Week 6 WEDNESDAY EVENING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

Let your ways be known upon earth, All your saving power among the nations.

That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.

All As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us, to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise, now and for ever. Amen.

PSALM Psalm 141 (Good News Translation)

I call to you, LORD; help me now! Listen to me when I call to you. 2 Receive my prayer as incense, my uplifted hands as an evening sacrifice.

3 LORD, place a guard at my mouth, a sentry at the door of my lips. 4 Keep me from wanting to do wrong and from joining evil people in their wickedness. May I never take part in their feasts.

5 Good people may punish me and rebuke me in kindness, but I will never accept honour from evil people, because I am always praying against their evil deeds.

6 When their rulers are thrown down from rocky cliffs, the people will admit that my words were true. 7 Like wood that is split and chopped into bits, so their bones are scattered at the edge of the grave.

8 But I keep trusting in you, my Sovereign LORD. I seek your protection; don't let me die!

9 Protect me from the traps they have set for me, from the snares of those evildoers. 10 May the wicked fall into their own traps while I go by unharmed.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Lord God, our protector and guide, who made us knowing both good and evil, help us to desire all that is good, that the offering of our lives may be acceptable to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

35 Jesus heard that the Pharisees had thrown the blind man he healed out of the synagogue. When Jesus found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man? ” 36 “Who is he, sir? ” the man asked. “Tell me, so I can believe in him. ” 37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him. In fact, he is the one speaking with you. ” 38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe. ” And he worshiped him. 39 Jesus said, “I have come into this world to judge it. I have come so that people who are blind will see. I have come so that people who can see will become blind. ” 40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this. They asked, “What? Are we blind too? ” 41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, you remain guilty. (John 9. 35 -41; NIr. V)

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you: All for by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world. Christ himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, All that we might die to sin and live to righteousness: by his wounds we have been healed. Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit: All We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, for by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

For the poor in spirit, that they may inherit the kingdom of heaven and see you face to face.

All Lord Jesus Christ, you humbled yourself in taking the form of a servant, and in obedience died on the cross for our salvation: give us the mind to follow you and to proclaim you as Lord and King, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Trusting in the compassion of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:
