LENT Week 4 SATURDAY EVENING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

Hear our voice, O Lord, according to your faithful love, All according to your judgement, give us life.

Blessed are you, Lord God of our Salvation: All to you be praise and glory for ever.

In the darkness of our sin, you have shone in our hearts: All to give the light of the knowledge of your glory in the face of Christ.

May the knowledge of your presence free us from sin and shame, All that we may grow into your likeness from glory to glory.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!

That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.

All As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us, to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise, now and for ever. Amen.

THE WORD OF GOD… … a source of life

PSALM Psalm 41 (Good News Translation)

Happy are those who are concerned for the poor; the LORD will help them when they are in trouble. 2 The LORD will protect them and preserve their lives; he will make them happy in the land.

He will not abandon them to the power of their enemies. 3 The LORD will help them when they are sick and will restore them to health.

4 I said, “I have sinned against you, LORD; be merciful to me and heal me. ” 5 My enemies say cruel things about me. They want me to die and be forgotten.

6 Those who come to see me are not sincere; they gather bad news about me and then go out and tell it everywhere. 7 All who hate me whisper to each other about me, they imagine the worst about me.

8 They say, “He is fatally ill; he will never leave his bed again. ” 9 Even my best friend, the one I trusted most, the one who shared my food, has turned against me.

10 Be merciful to me, LORD, and restore my health, and I will pay my enemies back. 11 They will not triumph over me, and I will know that you are pleased with me.

12 You will help me, because I do what is right; you will keep me in your presence forever.

13 Praise the LORD, the God of Israel! Praise him now and forever! Amen!

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

God our deliverer, raise up the poor and comfort the betrayed, through the one who for our sakes became poor and whose betrayal brought our salvation, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

11 “Sir, ” the woman said, “you don’t have anything to get water with. The well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Our father Jacob gave us the well. He drank from it himself. So did his sons and his livestock. Are you more important than he is? ” 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. 14 But anyone who drinks the water I give them will never be thirsty. In fact, the water I give them will become a spring of water in them. It will flow up into eternal life. ” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water. Then I will never be thirsty. And I won’t have to keep coming here to get water. ” (John 4. 11 -15; NIr. V)

Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, All and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach sinners your commands, All and they will turn back to you. Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit: All Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.

For peace and justice in the world: may a spirit of respect, reconciliation and compassion grow among nations and peoples.

All Lord God, your Son, our Saviour gave his back to the smiters and did not hide his face from shame: give us grace to endure the sufferings of this present tie with sure confidence in the glory that shall be revealed; through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Trusting in the compassion of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:
