River Park Leisure Centre • More than 40 years old • Limited ability to meet the needs of a growing population • Range of options considered
City Council Objectives • To expand facilities to meet existing demand estimated local population growth up to 2030 • To increase participation in sport and physical activity • To improve the quality and efficiency of District’s main leisure facility • To improve the wellbeing of the local community, through access to high quality leisure facilities
Update • September 2015 WCC Cabinet decided the preferred location for a leisure centre, if affordable and deliverable, is to the east of the University of Winchester Sports Stadium, at Bar End. • July 2016 the facility mix of the centre was agreed • November 2016 the owner of the Garrison Ground agreed terms to sell the site to WCC
