Lee’s Migration Model Savannah Placie and Mc. Kenna Farmer
Everette Lee ❏ 1886 -1956 ❏Physicist, philanthropist, and socialist in Dallas, Texas ❏He realised that the same feature might be perceived differently by different individuals.
Lee’s Migration Theory ❏Divides factors causing migrations into two groups of factors, push and pull. The factors are either economic, cultural, or environmental ❏push- things that are unfavorable about the area that one lives in and pushes out the population ❏pull-things that attract one to an area
Aim of Theory ❏He tried to explain the factors affecting migration in terms of the positive and negative characteristics of both the origin and destination.
Push and Pull Factors ❏Factors which either forcefully push people into migration or attract them. ❏An example would include civil disputes amongst countries causing outbreaks of war resulting in people fleeing.
Push Factors ❏Conditions that drive people to leave their homes. ❏Examples: ❏ Land scarce in home country ❏ Political and/or religious persecution ❏ Revolutions ❏ Poverty ❏ Not enough jobs ❏ Famine/drought
Pull Factors ❏Conditions that attract people to a new area. ❏Examples: ❏ Promise of freedom (religious and political) ❏ Hope for a new life ❏ Industry ❏ Jobs ❏ Land ❏ New opportunities
