Images can be used: • As a backdrop behind text to create a pictorial framework for the text. • As a background for the content. • As an icon to represent options that can be selected. • As a trigger to select can launch other multimedia objects or events. • As direct attention. • To add emphasis. • To illustrate concepts. • To present information in fast and efficient way. • To provide persistence and consistent • 3 understanding to a different person. To create lasting impression or establishing mood.

Instruction: While listening to today’s lecture, I want you to really FOCUS & Instruction THINK…then answer questions below: Q 1: What are the most important points from the day’s lesson? Q 2: What is the most confusing idea in the lesson? Q 3: What do you LIKE most from today’s class? Q 4: What do you HATE most from today’s class? 4 Q 5: List FIVE most important point that you can remember from today’s lesson.

Graphics Application The demand for images is essential whereby it is required in daily life. eg. Architect, Engineer, Designer etc. In industrial sectors: Engineer uses computer graphics for modeling, product design and prototyping. Media, journalist, advertiser uses a lot of graphics element in their work to make more interesting. 5 Electrician use graphics in designing circuit boards and diagrams.

Bitmap - Bitmap is derived from the words bit: which means the bit simplest

Bitmap - Bitmap is derived from the words bit: which means the bit simplest element in which only two digits are used, and map: which is a two-dimensional matrix of these bits. map - A bitmap is a data matrix describing the individual dots of an image. 7

Bitmaps are an image format suited for creation of: - Photo-realistic images - Complex drawings - Images that require fine detail

Bitmap - Bitmapped images are known as paint graphics. - A bitmap is made

Bitmap - Bitmapped images are known as paint graphics. - A bitmap is made up of individual dots or picture elements known as pixels. - Bitmapped images can have varying bit and color depths.

Bitmap Binary Combinations for Describing a Color x Dithered to 1 -bit. Two colors, black and white. Dithered to 4 -bit gray-scale. 16 shades of gray. 2 Dithered to 4 bits. 16 colors. Dithered to 8 bits. Adaptive palette of 256 colors. Dithered to 8 -bit grayscale - 256 shades of gray. 24 bits depth. Millions of colors.

Using clip art galleries - A clip art gallery is an assortment of graphics, photographs, sound, and video. - Clip art is a popular alternative for users who do not want to create their own images. - Clip art collections are available on CD-ROMs and on the Internet.

Examples of industry-standard programs for bitmap painting and editing are: - Adobe’s Photoshop. -

Examples of industry-standard programs for bitmap painting and editing are: - Adobe’s Photoshop. - Corel’s Painter and Corel. Draw.

Capturing and editing images - Capturing and storing images directly from the screen is

Capturing and editing images - Capturing and storing images directly from the screen is another way to assemble images for multimedia. - The PRINT SCREEN key in Windows or the COMMANDSHIFT- 3 key combination on the Macintosh copies the screen image to the clipboard.

Image editing programs enable the user to: - Enhance and make composite images. -

Image editing programs enable the user to: - Enhance and make composite images. - Alter and distort images. - Add and delete elements. - Morph (manipulate still images to create animated transformations).

Vector-drawn images are used in the following areas: - Computer-aided design (CAD) programs

Vector-drawn images are used in the following areas: - Computer-aided design (CAD) programs - Graphic artists designing for the print media - 3 D animation programs - Applications requiring drawing of graphic shapes

Vector How vector-drawn images work - A vector is a line that is described by the location of its two end points. - Vector drawing makes use of Cartesian coordinates. - Cartesian coordinates are numbers that describe a point in two or three-dimensional space as the intersection of the X, Y, and Z axes.

Vector-drawn images versus bitmaps - Vector images use less memory space and have

Vector-drawn images versus bitmaps - Vector images use less memory space and have a smaller file size as compared to bitmaps. - For the Web, pages that use vector graphics in plug-ins download faster and, when used for animation, draw faster than bitmaps. - Vector images cannot be used for photorealistic images.

Vector • Vector-drawn images versus bitmaps (continued) - Vector images require a plug-in

Vector • Vector-drawn images versus bitmaps (continued) - Vector images require a plug-in for Web-based display. - Bitmaps are not easily scalable and resizable. - Bitmaps can be converted to vector images using autotracing.
