GOVERNMENT ENCOURAGEMENT OF ARTISTIC ACTIVITY • Artists still sent abroad to study. • Galatasary exhibitions repeated in Ankara after 1926. • In 1933 Inkilap Resimleri Pictures of the revolution series launched. • In 1937 part of Dolmabahçe palace opened as museum of painting and sculpture. • Between 1938 and 1943 republican party started ‘Homeland Tours’ Yurt Gezeleri to encourage artists to work in remote parts of Turkey. • In 1939 first State Exhibition of Painting held. ARTIST LED ACTIVITY • In 1929 Association of Independent Painters and Sculptors formed by group known as The Independents. Refik Epikman, Cevat Dereli, Şeref Akdik, Mahmut Cüda, Hale Asaf, Muhattin Sebati. . . . . • The ‘d-group’ formed a few years later. Cemal Tollu, Zeki Faik İzer, Nurullah Berk, Zühtü Müridoğlu, Elif Naci, Abidin Dino. . . . . • In 1941 ‘Yenileri’ (the new ones) group formed. Nuri İyem, Kemal Sönmezler, Ferruh Başağa, Selim turan, Abidin Dino Mümtaz Yener. . . .
