Categorizing Religion 1 All Religions can be divided into different categories. Some religions are PROPHETIC. These are religions where God sent a message to a prophet, e. g Christianity, Judaism, Islam Some Religions are MYSTICAL. These religions try to experience a closeness God(s) and the divine in their everyday lives. e. g. Buddhism and Hinduism.

Categorizing Religions 2 Religions Can also be divided on the way that they view God. MONOTHEISTIC religions believe in one God only, e. g. Christianity, Islam and Judaism. POLYTHEISTIC religions believe in many gods, e. g. Buddhism and Islam. PANTHEISTIC religions see the divine being present in all things, e. g. Mahayana Buddhism.

Religious Traditions in Europe There is a broad division between Catholic Southern Europe - Spain, Italy etc and Protestant Northern Europe. The 5 scandanavian countires officially recognise proestant state churches.

In Germany it is roughly 50% Catholic and 50% Protestant. England Is highly Secularised.
