Learning Theory Presentation A look into how technology influences knowledge acquisition Peter Graff Columbus State University EDMS 6474 Summer 2015

Factors for an Enlightened Approach to Technology Integration ◦ First a Plan for integrating new technology ◦ Setting up favorable conditions for the technology to take hold ◦ Ensure that the sanctity of learning is preserved in the process Roblyer, M. , & Doering, A. 1 of 4 The Learning Theories. . .

❖ Behaviorist Theories - B. F. Skinner from his theories we learned that instruction must provide the right stimuli and reinforcement to induce the desired educational outcomes. ❖ Information-Processing Theories Atkinson and Shiffrin - processes inside the brain allow human beings to learn and remember. Memory and Storage. ❖ Cognitive-Behaviorist Theory - Robert Gagné - “conditions for learning” are achieved by offering activities matched to specific skills.

“ “to the extent that intelligence is culturedependent, intelligent behavior is likely to take different forms in children with unique ethnic backgrounds. ” - Mc. Devitt and Ormrod (2010)

Not one Framework for all. . . Cognitive, emotional, and environmental influences, as well as prior experience, all play a part in how understanding is acquired and knowledge and skill are retained (Ormrod, 2012).

Learning Style Theories Learning theories propose that students learn in a variety of ways, and that there are distinct learning styles and that knowledge of a learner’s preferred style will lead to faster and more satisfactory improvements (Smith, 2007).
