Learning Styles Theories Behaviorism Cognitivism Constructivism How people learn Learning is accomplished through an external stimulus which then creates a response, and from that there is then a consequence that is either positive or negative. This learning style is somewhat like inputting knowledge into a computer. Information enters the brain and contacts the sense, then is mentally processed, and finally used Piaget is one constructivist who notes that learning is done through assimilation into new ideas, acculturation of these ideas, and equilibrium where these ideas are put together to create new ideas in the brain Technology Technological uses by behaviorism include Labs out of books, instructional films and TV, and more recently computers are a use of learning style for behaviorism. Some types of technology used in this learning style includes computer programs, use of internet sites, and simulations of a lesson. Some technology that can be used in this learning style would be group work on presentations, computer programs, and video instruction.

Behaviorism n This learning style is characterized by the idea of learning through stimulus and response, and from this stimulus and response the consequence that comes from it. n From this the consequences will either be positive or negative. If they are positive the action will be repeated, but if the consequence is negative it is less likely to be repeated. http: //psych. athabascau. ca/html/Behaviorism/

Cognitivism Cognitive learning style is characterized by learning through a mental process that is somewhat like inputting data into a computer. n Information enters the brain, then connects to the senses, after this the information is mental connected, and new data is now stored and ready for used in the brain. n This learning style is represented very well in the learning model I have to present. n

Constructivism is a learning style that is characterized by different thoughts and practices. n

Constructivism is a learning style that is characterized by different thoughts and practices. n There is radical constructivism, socio-cultural constructivism, as well as many others that are discussed on the website below. http: //carbon. cudenver. edu/~mryder/itc_data/constructivism. html n n Overall, this learning style can be defined as assimilating this new idea into your brain, then it becoming acculturated, where you make your own assumptions about it, and lastly you find a equilibrium in your brain that applies the new ideas. This idea comes from Piaget’s studies
