Shift 6: Academic Vocabulary Students constantly build the transferable vocabulary they need to access grade level complex texts. This can be done effectively by spiraling like content in increasingly complex texts.

[2] They say this because, according to Weiss, “The sheer quantity of roads, parks, bridges, playgrounds, and housing that he built is astonishing – and much of it of extremely high quality. ” (Robert Moses: Good, Bad, or…? ) [3] This means that he built many public works projects that people still use today, because he built those things to last for a long time. [4] What they do not realize is that in order to build those public works projects, he had to dispossess thousands of people and destroy entire communities. [5] This shows that while he built the highway to help people, in reality he forced thousands of people to leave their homes and livelihoods. [6] The sudden disruption of a stable, vibrant neighborhood and the rupture of life in East Tremont caused the neighborhood, and soon thereafter parts of the South Bronx, to slowly decline during the 1970 s and 1980 s before its resurgence in the 1990 s and 2000 s.
