Learning objectives Learners will be able to Describe

Learning objectives Learners will be able to; • Describe how a switch turns a device on or off • Explore how an electrical device will not work if there is a break in the circuit.

Wrap up • An electric circuit is a closed path through which electrons can flow. • A circuit only works if there are no gaps. • Switches can be used to turn circuits on or off. • Switches are used to control a circuit. • There are two terminals of a battery; negative terminal and positive terminal. • A closed circuit is a complete circuit when the switch is on. • An open circuit is an incomplete circuit when the switch is off.

Assignment • Read page number 66 and 67. • Try to answer Q 1 - Q 3. • After attempting the answers given in your text book take half sheet of A 4 size paper and differentiate between open and close circuit. Open circuit Closed circuit

Answer key • Ans 1 a: A battery provides electricity. • Ans 1 b: A bulb makes light when electricity passes through it • Ans 2 a: A buzzer makes sound when electricity passes through it. • Ans 2 b: There is a gap in the circuit. • Ans 2 c: It can work when we close the gap. • Ans 3 a: Use glossary • Ans 3 b: Switch can leave a gap or close a gap in a circuit.

Open circuit Closed circuit Open circuit is an incomplete circuit. Closed circuit is a complete circuit. It has a gap. It does not have any gap. The components cannot work if the circuit The components work properly when the is open. circuit is closed. Switch is off. Switch is on.
