NOTE VALUES The musical notes C, D, E, F and G can be written

NOTE VALUES The musical notes C, D, E, F and G can be written in different ways to show HOW LONG to play the note for. A SEMIBREVE is held for 4 seconds. A MINIM is held for 2 seconds. A CROTCHET is held for 1 second. This then continues into: A QUAVER being held for ½ of a second. A SEMI-QUAVER being held for ¼ of a second.

TIME SIGNATURES A time signature tells you how the music is to be counted.

TIME SIGNATURES A time signature tells you how the music is to be counted. It is written at the beginning of the staff after the clef and key signature. Time signatures consist of two numbers written like a fraction. The top number of the time signature tells you how many beats to count. The bottom number tells you the note value, for example in 4/4 the, the 4 represents a crotchet beat.

INDEPENDENT WORK 3/3 This is the final sheet I would like you to complete. Use the TABLE ABOVE to help you! Three space ships need to find spaces to land. Using a ruler, you will need to connect them to the places where they can land. There is a tutorial on the next slide.

TUTORIAL 3 There are different combinations of notes that add up to the time signature of the space ships. The example I have shown in red. 2 minims is the same as 2 + 2. For the next one, I know that 2 crotchets is the same as 1 + 1. That means it needs to match with the space ship that reads 2/4. I have marked this in green.
