ic_meded Transitioning to university- Summary
ic_meded Academic - Lack of direction - “what do I need to know for exams? ” “how much detail do I need to know? ” - “I feel so dumb here” Social - Work life balance: please enjoy life, don’t just study - There is so much to explore in London. Please do this before it is too late - Try new things and explore your interests in university - Have a good support network! Take Care of yourself! - Exercise - Sleep
Our final top tips ic_meded 1. Make the most of older students - Towards the end of the year in particular, many older students will organise and lead small group tutorials (or occasionally large revision days) to help prepare you for your exams. 2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help - There are plenty of brilliant options if ever you find yourself struggling at Imperial including free student counselling (ask your Welfare reps for details). 3. Don’t compare yourself to others- everyone is a snake during exam season
Our final top tips ic_meded 4. Should I/How do I make notes? - There is no single ‘correct’ way of making notes - Do whatever is most efficient at getting the information into your head - Some people type, some annotate slides, some use others’ notes – there’s no single ‘correct’ way - As long as it is some form of active learning 5. If you’re tired/hungover but want to be productive then do something easy -When your brain is failing, give it something easy to do -Tailor what you revise based on how up for it you feel 6. Accept that you will have weaknesses Know when to move on At this stage, MEDICINE is BREADTH NOT DEPTH
Our final top tips ic_meded 7. Keep a record of your lectures/content you have covered
