What is Makerspace? -An area to allow students / patrons to explore, create, build and test their own ideas -An area where students have equal access to material when needed -An area where students are free to utilize the design thinking process -An area where there isn’t interference telling students what to do What is a Craft Center -A place where all the students are making similar things with specific instructions and materials

Goals - To give students opportunities to use and develop critical thinking and collaboration skills To help teachers’ understand the process for design thinking and the need to give students time and space to explore and create without interference To give students the opportunity to share, build and reflect on their experience To help students understand that it may take many ideas for a solution to be found
Timeline - To model design thinking to all classes, the time is kept to 30 minutes. 5 minutes Discuss the different challenges, discuss what collaboration means and how to speak to team members in a positive and respectful way even when there is a disagreement. 20 minutes Break into groups and start challenges 5 minutes Reflect and Discuss how any problems were solved and how well the groups worked together November’s Topic Discuss, define and model collaboration and teamwork skills December’s Topic Discuss what it means to be an active listener
