Copyright • To be protected by copyright, the work must be the product of the author's/creator’s independent and original creative work – no registration needed. • Work = an original work of visual art, design, architecture, written or spoken word, music, sound, dance, performance, computer program, illustration, sketch, map, etc. • Creator/author has exclusive right to deside whether she/he allows any copies or alterations to be made or how the product is presented to public. • In case an artwork is produced in a team, you share the copyright. 19. 1. 2022 3

What can I do without violating copyright? • Any person may make single copies of a published work for his private use (photocopy, photograph, print out, digital copy, etc. ). • Citing in scientific presentation Images can be used in scientific works such as theses, dissertations and course papers to illustrate and clarify text. Images must relate to the text and they must be discussed in the text, i. e. use of an image cannot be for decorative purposes. The designers/author's name and the source must be stated to the extent and in the manner required by fair practice. 19. 1. 2022 6
