Learning café What is learning café? The Learning Café concept is a way of facilitating professional conversation and collaboration in a relaxed environment where staff can come together, discover together, share together and celebrate together. Why have a learning café? A further chance to engage in diverse conversation about teaching and learning, time exploring some new resources, an ICT program or explicit teaching strategy in a supportive way to express ideas, views and challenges that extend our thinking, broaden our understanding and perspective in the context of what we are teaching now, tomorrow or next week.

Lets discuss……………. Share how you would apply pace to your lessons to teach a concept/skill or knowledge in a virtual classroom. (eg. In science I need to teach students about diseases that effect the body today. ) What do I want my students to have achieved by the end of our 40 minute lesson? How will I adjust and differentiate the pace of the learning to maximise achievement for my students? How will I know it has been successful?

What strategy do you think you could try that impacts achievement through pacing your online lesson: 1. Be explicit throughout the lesson about what I want the students to achieve next. 2. Be explicit about the success criteria for each activity 3. Use examples or exemplars to show what a completed activity looks like 3. Adjust the timing of and between activities 4. Use an online timer to signal the transitions between activities 5. Have touch points throughout to check for understanding 6. Use thumbs up, to the side or down to check in 7. Use polly on Teams, quiz or kahoot, student conferencing 8. Submissions 9. Feedback – self-assessment, review and reflection
