Course Objectives � Analyze the techniques and skills necessary to support effective communication and build professional relationships. � Investigate strategies used to promote and sustain the quality of nursing practice in the healthcare environment. � Evaluate the actions and activities which support the leadership practice of the nurse executive. � Participate in implementation of the role of the nurse executive in creating and maintaining professional practice. � Evaluate financial, human resource and strategic management practices as well as the employment of marketing techniques and the use of information management and technology systems. � Develop a strategic leadership project.
Personal Objectives � � � � Develop positive communication strategies to empower and advocate for patients, peers, and providers. Synthesize information from meetings to review current policies and procedures that address if changes need to be made that would improve the quality of nursing practice. Evaluate the outcomes of activities in enhancing the effectiveness of the nurse leader role as a manager, coordinator of care, change agent, and role model. Analyze the daily leadership huddles that are held to discuss organizational concerns and solutions on internship days. Interpret information from budget meetings to become familiar with financial practices. Evaluate the interview process and other human resources issues to become familiar with these practices. Examine the effect of professional, social, political, ethical, and technological issues on the environment and nursing practice. Complete a project that will provide possible solutions to benefit the organization.
