LEADERSHIP PRESENTATION By: Courtney Kowalske
Who Am I? My name is Courtney, I am 17 and a senior at FHS. To me, I think I come from an average size family with a Mom, Dad, and two sisters. My family is my biggest support system and I strive to make them proud.
What or Who Has Prepped Me for Leadership? Cheerleading My niece and nephew Family Work High school
Cheerleading I was on the cheerleading team from my freshman year to my junior year. This is the biggest way I learned leadership. Being a cheerleader means you are always positive, cheer on your team, and act in a well mannered way. I always had to have a smile on my face, be loud, and while in uniform make sure I was acting maturely. When you’re a cheerleader you have to step up and do the right thing and have a voice because people are always watching. During my junior year, I was one of the oldest on the team, that being said I had to be a positive role model to my new team mates.
Mac Kenzie & Jordan Having a niece and nephew has really made me step up and become a leader. My niece Mac Kenzie is 10, and my nephew Jordan is 2. I know both of them look up to me, especially Mac Kenzie. I try to make good and positive choices, because I know that if I do something they will follow it. I want to be their role model, I can’t wait to watch them grow up into very positive and successful people.
Family Along with my niece and nephew, my family has greatly prepped me for leadership. They push me so hard, then let me go and see how I do. I just try my best to make them proud. My mom does it all, while my dad is the same way. I try to be just like them so one day I can be in their shoes.
Work I coach children’s gymnastics at Cutting Edge Athletics and this has really taught me how to be a better leader. I’ve worked there for a little over a year and I think I’ve progressed completely. I have to make sure all the kids are following along with me and that no one gets hurt. I have to project my voice so that all can hear, and make sure that I remain positive so they know to do the same. All of the kids I coach look up to me, so I want to be a positive leader in their life.
High School I can’t believe it is already senior year and how much I’ve grown as a person throughout high school. High school has prepped me for leadership in a very good way. The amount of things that go on in high school are crazy, and a person can either stand watch negative things happen, or speak up and be one of the few positive role models in our school. My freshman year I was always quiet and shy, I still am today but if I were to see someone doing something wrong, I would speak up. I believe being a positive leader is a chain reaction, once a person sees someone doing something good, they
How I See Myself I see myself as a very positive person. I always try to focus and try my best all while keeping a smile on my face. I am very independent and think before I do anything. I am a leader at home, school, and work.
How Can I Become a Better Leader? To become a better leader I could speak up more. When I’m not comfortable I tend to be more quiet and shy. If I act how I would around my friends and family I know I would be an outstanding leader. Also when I’m stressed, I need to learn how to remain calm and not lose my cool. If someone saw me go into a negative state of mind they wouldn’t think I am a positive leader anymore. Working on those few things I know I could be an even better leader than I already am.
My Strengths Keeping a smile on my face Staying focused Being honest Being loyal Thinking before acting Staying on task Being organized Being emotionally strong Being loud
How Will I Benefit From My Strengths? If I end up being a counselor, my strengths will greatly help me. Being able kind-hearted and loyal will help my clients easily trust me and open up to me. Since I’m organized I can also help my clients with tips for that.
A Weakness of Mine… One of my weaknesses is not being able to speak up when I see something wrong. I tend to be shy towards things I’m unfamiliar with and if someone does something rude or wrong I will brush it off like I didn’t see it. I need to overcome this weakness.
Overcoming My Weakness To overcome my weakness I should have strong beliefs in my morals. If I feel strongly about the thing s I believe in I will stand up for them. No one can tell me differently.
Closing… I think I make a great leader now, and I will only get better. If I work on my weaknesses and as a grow as a person I will just keep moving forward. I will always remain positive and keep my head up so others can follow!
