Leadership 1 Intro to Leadership
What is leadership and why is it important? God has called all of us to lead in some capacity We lead others and we lead ourselves Leadership has many definitions and it is a journey Leadership is not exclusive to Christians but there is a Christ centred type of leadership
Bible Based Leadership (Matt 20: 25 -28) ONE key aspect of leadership in the bible (there are more) There is a bad type of leadership where people lord it over others Jesus tells us to not have that kind of leadership (“Not so with you”) Jesus doesn’t want mixed leadership (“Instead”) Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. Whoever wants to be first must be your slave Leadership begins with servanthood Jesus set the ultimate example of servanthood
Leadership has impact Leadership impacts people and people are what really matter, people shape the world HOW are we impacting people? Positively or negatively? Leadership is not stagnant – we can grow in our ability to lead and in our sphere of influence
Application of Leadership There is a foundation of leadership Leadership is broad, so always go back to the foundation The bible is our key source of guidance when it comes to leadership Experiences do not define leadership
Application of Leadership We cannot allow hurts in our lives to determine our leadership Leadership comes from truth (the bible), not experiences and feelings Is leadership something you’re born with or something you learn?
