1. The Goal Setter A Leader’s main role is to set the goals of the particular organization within a given time period A leader must give a clear direction on what is the vision, mission and objectives of the organization This will give everybody in the organization the basic guidance on where should they focus their efforts
2. The Spoke Person A Leader is the main spoke person for the organisation A leader communicate not only what the organisation is all about, he also communicate the relationship of the organisation with other organisations in the bigger environment A Leader must also remember that he is the main spoke person for the organisation both verbally and also by his everyday behaviour
3. The Compass A Leader is like a compass for the organisation – It shows the way in which the organisation is suppose to grow. He shows the way forward A leader also acts as a moral compass. The benchmark of what is considered good and appropriate by the organisation
4. The Problem Solver A Leader is seen to be someone who is wise and have a range of experiences Therefore he is the one everybody turn to, when they have a problem Problem Solving is one of the main job of a leader He should also ‘teach’ others good problem solving techniques
5. The Distributor of Resources Most of the time, resources for an organisation is either limited or totally scarce A leader’s role is to distribute the limited or scarce resources wisely A bad distribution of resources will hinder organisation to meet its full potential
6. The Feedback Provider Most human being are curious to know the views of their leaders Especially in regards to the work they had done Hence, it is timely for the leader to give a constructive feedbacks regarding works in progress or those that have been completed by their subordinates
7. The Motivator Everyone need a leader who could give them hope A leader who could motivate them to work hard for a worthwhile goal A leader who could motivate and inspire them to keep on working when all they think about is giving up A leader who will give them a pat at the back and a “Good Job!” praise if they had done a good job
8. The Cultivator of Future Leaders An exceptional leader has the ability to cultivate more and more better leaders of the future Through leading by example; teaching; sharing of experience; coaching and mentoring and other techniques; an exceptional leader is able to cultivate multiple numbers of future leaders whom are actually better leaders than he ever was
9. The Defender of the Organisation A leader has a role and a responsibility to defend the organisation from harm. Whether it is physical harm or in the form of bad organisation image and reputation A leader should work continuously to minimize the risk of bad things happening to the organisation and it’s workers
10. The Identifier and Agent of Beneficial Changes Living in a VUCA World, organization will face the need for change often, hence a leader need to be the identifier and also agent for beneficial changes in an organisation

3. Inculcate Open and Honest Feedback Great followers encourage the leader to provide honest feedback about his or her performance This improve mutual trust between the leader and the follower By welcoming open and honest feedback, the follower build a mentor-mentee relatioship with the leader
4. Appreciator of Effective Leadership Every leader wants to know that their efforts are making an impact and that they are appreciated including leaders. The very act of showing appreciation and praise by the follower helps to reinforce desirable effective leadership practices by the leader
5. Inculcate Cooperation Great followers strive to make the working environment a conducive one They inculcate cooperation and build trust among each other Great followers realize that teamwork and cooperation is the basis of organisation performance
