Compass Improvements: Principal Goal Setting PRIOR TO 2015 -2016: Principal set a minimum of two goals, which express an expectation of student growth. SPS available for use as the measure of student growth. BEGINNING 2015 -2016: Principals will set goals where two are based in SPS with: • One goal based on overall SPS improvement • One goal aligned to components of school performance improvement Sample Principal Goals: PRIOR to 2015 -2016 Goal 1: 80% of students in grade 3 will meet or exceed 80% proficiency on the end of year teacher administered math fluency assessment. Goal 2: 80% of my teachers will score a 3 or higher on their end of year Compass ratings. Sample Principal Goals: BEGINNING 2015 -2016 Goal 1: Current year student achievement, as measured by SPS, will meet or exceed an increase of points in overall SPS. which is Goal 2: Current year student achievement, as measured by the Math Assessment Index, will meet or exceed . Reconfigured Schools • Since reconfigured schools do not have an SPS based on their current grade configuration, school leaders will need to compute an assessment index only SPS to use when setting their SPS and assessment index goals. • Using the SPS calculator, enter the number for each of the students that you currently have in grades 4 – 8 (you will not have state testing data for 3 rd grade students from last year). This information is found in Student Stats. • For Social Studies, use the 14 -15 data for the students in grades 5 – 8. Leave 4 th grade SS blank – because you will not have any data. • This should give you an SPS based on the assessment indexes. This SPS will not include any progress points or DCAI. Those will not be used to evaluate you with the SPS goal for this transitional year. • Once you receive the 16 -17 test data (this summer) you will need to compute your own assessment index only SPS and not include any 3 rd grade assessment results or 4 th grade SS results – to make this comparable to the assessment index only SPS you computed. • If you have any questions, contact your Network Leader.

Goal 3: Progress Points Goal #1: Improve Math Performance – B School Target Statement

Goal 3: Progress Points Goal #1: Improve Math Performance – B School Target Statement (based on full attainment) My school will earn at least 5 bonus points for the 16 -17 school year. Insufficient Attainment of Partial Attainment of Target (1 point) Target (2 points) Full Attainment of Target (3 points) Exceptional Attainment of Target (4 points) Achievement Range: 0 bonus points 1 – 4 bonus points 5 – 9 bonus points 10 bonus points Rational: Use a scale that is consistent for all schools and is based on actual progress points earned.

TPSS Leader SLT Requirement • All assessment components of the School Performance score must be covered by the administrative team at the school. Growth rate will be determined by grade level of school and LDOE charts. • Team approach – we are all in this together.

K-8 Example Principal: • Goal 1: SPS growth • Goal 2: Growth in lowest

K-8 Example Principal: • Goal 1: SPS growth • Goal 2: Growth in lowest assessment index from previous year • Goal 3: Progress Points Assistant Principals/AA • Goal 1: assessment index growth by grade and/or subject based on areas of responsibility. • Goal 2: assessment index growth by grade and/or subject based on areas of responsibility. All grades and assessment indexes should be covered by the administrative team.

High School Example • Principals • Goal 1: SPS growth • Goal 2: Growth

High School Example • Principals • Goal 1: SPS growth • Goal 2: Growth in lowest assessment index (EOC or ACT) • Goal 3: Progress Points • Assistant Principals/AA/Counselors • Possible Goals depending on areas of responsibilities: • Growth in an assessment index (EOC or ACT) all or parts depending on area of responsibility. (i. e. An assistant who observes and provides support to all of the English teachers could do SLTs on the English II and III EOC. ) • Graduation Index • Graduation Cohort rate • Progress Points
