LEA Portfolio Metaphor LEA Workshop 26 -29 January 2005

What’s actually a portfolio? What should I include in my portfolio? Should we put parts of it on the web as a project portfolio?

I’ll discover it while I’ll go sailing. But. . .

There are different ways of using a portfolio. Kohonen (2000: 7) discusses two basic types: (1) the process-oriented portfolios learning (“working”) (2) and the product-oriented reporting (“showcase”) portfolios The portfolio can include various kinds of process-related materials: • action plans, • learning logs, • drafts of work, • comments by the teacher and peers (by colleagues or students), • reflections, • creative works, • evaluation criteria and checklists to evaluate progress with regard to clearly defined learning objectives.

The reporting portfolio is used to document learning outcomes for a variety of purposes: • for giving marks in schools or institutions; • for applying to a higher education institution; • or it can be compiled for the purpose of documenting language skills when applying for a job. Depending on the purpose, you select relevant documents from your portfolio and you submit them for review.

Or maybe diving in the deep sea waters, I’ll find the inspiration But. . . How long should I keep my portfolio? Should I keep all the materials I collect in my portfolio?

Anyway. . . I’m starting to collect materials this week Later on I’ll decide what may be useful to keep in my portfolio to improve my daily learning
