1. BIOGRAPHY • Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris aka Le Corbusier was a Swissborn French architect.
1908 • studied architecture at Vienna 1918 -1922 • Developed Purist painting with Ozenfant 1950 • Delved into city planning and designed Chandigarh 1965 • Died while swimming in Mediterranean sea
2. CAREER LIFE ather of modern architecture, Le Corbusier was a true trailblazer. He was a contemporary and friend of Picasso and Dalí, who met Einstein and became infatuated with Josephine Baker.
A prolific painter and sculptor, an author of 34 books, a polemicist, a public speaker and lecturer. An architect who was called upon to design an entire city from scratch. A divisive urban planner who dreamed of razing central Paris to the ground to make space for concrete skyscrapers.

UNITE D'HABITATION • Le Corbusier attempted to realize his urban planning schemes on a small scale by constructing a series of ‘unites’ around France. • The most famous of these was the unite d'habitation of Marseilles(1946 -1952).
NOTRE DAME DU HAUT • Notre Dame du Haut is a Roman Catholic chapel in Ronchamp, France. • Built in 1954, it is one of the finest examples of the architecture of architect Le Corbusier and one of the most important examples of twentiethcentury religious architecture.

• The columns set back from the facades, inside the house. • The floor continues cantilevered. • The facades are no longer anything but light skins of insulating walls or windows. The facade is free.
