A comparative adverb is one that compares items. It allows you to say things like “I lift heavier weights than Endicott” Or “ I swim faster than Breanna”
While these statements may not be true. The French comparative and superlative let you talk the talk.
In French, as in English, there are three levels of comparison: Superior, Inferior and equal
To form regular comparative sentences in French (yes, there are irregulars – not that easy), sandwich your adjectives between the following words Plus…que (more…than) Moins…que (less…than) Aussi…que (as…. as)
Check out these examples - Le chat noir est plus grand que le chat gris. - Ta maison est chere que ma maison. - Monqiue est aussi belle que Marie.
Irregular Comparative Forms BON (good) Much like how you can’t say “gooder than” in English, you can’t say plus bon in French. Instead, use the word meilleur in the comparative. Be aware, bon is only irregular in the superior form – you can say moins bon (less good). Mon lilvre est meilleur que ton livre. Ton livre est moins bon que mon livre.
Mauvais (bad) Much like how you can’t say “badder than” in English, you can’t say plus mauvais in French. Instead, use the word pire in the comparative. Be aware, mauvais is only irregular in the superior form – you can say moins mauvais (less bad). Ce vin est pire que l’autre. (this wine is worse than the other) Lebo est pire que Campbell. Son attitude est pire que la mienne. (his/her attitude is worse than mine. )
