Layout of LBS Application LBS Use – provide the references that the beam is delivered to the PSB with the correct p + Dp, Some usage for studies – Essential for energy ramping p(E=50 Me. V)=310 Me. V/c, p(E=160 Me. V)=571 Me. V/c R Scrivens – L 4 Instrumentation Day
LBS LBS. BVT 10 - Limited to 63 Me. V with present cooling and power supply – magnet saturating at this maximum current. SEMGrid – Resolution probably not sufficient Linac 2 DE/E~0. 23% ; Linac 4 DE/E~0. 06% ; 1 wire=0. 16% Time resolved readout for energy ramping. Slits Range of 160 Me. V protons in carbon 87 mm!!! (d. E/dx~1 Me. V/mm) Present slits are 20 / 16 mm. Tank not large enough to hold these slits? Must consider grazing protons Narrower aperture if more resolution required End line dump – Also needs to be thicker. BHZ 40 – 171 A (B=0. 25 T). Has been tested to 207 A, but not with this PC. Calibration – NMR should be integrated from the beginning. R Scrivens – L 4 Instrumentation Day
Layout of LBE Application LBE Use – provide the references that the beam is delivered To the PSB with the correct ex, ey, matching. R Scrivens – L 4 Instrumentation Day
LBE Kicker magnet strength Cannot increase strength to have same beam sweep. Could change distance, or increase I but decrease d. I/dt Range of 160 Me. V protons in carbon 87 mm!!! (de/dx~1 Me. V/mm) Tank not large enough to hold these slits must consider grazing protons Aperture of slits? Zooming function within limits? SEMGrid – resolution? End line dump? BHZ 40 – If ok for LBS, ok here. Calibration? R Scrivens – L 4 Instrumentation Day
Conclusion • This was less than ½ days work, by no means an exhaustive study • A large fraction of the elements in each line need to be updated to work with 160 Me. V protons. • There will have to be an average beam intensity limiter on the slits. • LBS – Very easy to use • LBE – Easy to use, but difficult to calibrate. R Scrivens – L 4 Instrumentation Day
