Contiguous zone � It is that part of the sea which is beyond adjacent

Contiguous zone � It is that part of the sea which is beyond adjacent to the territorial sea of the coastal � According to article 53 of the UN convention on the law of the sea 1982, in a zone contiguous to its territorial sea, the coastal state may exercise necessary to :

� Prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary regulation within its territory

� Prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary regulation within its territory or territorial sea. � Punish infringement of the above regulations committed within its territory or territorial sea. � The contiguous may not extend beyond 24 miles from which the breath of territorial sea is measured. That is to say, it is 12 miles beyond the territorial water.
