Laws and ethics We are now going to look a range of laws and ethics that link to your writing, photography and double page spread. Firstly you will outline what each one means and give an example. Then you will think about how these laws and ethics will relate to your magazine and the issues you need to think about as a writer. How will these impact on your double page spread and front cover. Copyright What is Copyright? Copyright is when you copy something that you haven't had permission to use in whatever you are using it for. This can lead into serious legal actions being taken against the person that have used copyrighted content in whatever they are doing. Give examples of Copyright? An example of this is when a rapper called juice WRLD wrote a song call lucid dreams but the song had already been written by a different group and because he copied the back in track and the lyrics he got fined for this and he had to pay off the fine to be able to keep the song up for his fans to listen to.

Copyright How would Copyright impact your role as a writer for your double page spread and for your front cover? This could impact me as it could mean my work would be taken down and I would have to go to court for the work I have published and I could be fined for what I have put in my work. My work is already copyerighted and I can't use other peoples work without their permission to use it. That can be things like pictures, music and text. With what I have written in my articles that is copyrighted to me and it is the same for other people. If I want to use something that is written by someone else I must ask for their permission first otherwise I could end up going to court and paying a lot of money because I have been fined for copyright. This is really important for a writer as it means no one can steal what you have written about and class it as their own work.

Defamation - Libel What is Defamation – what does it mean? This is when you right something about someone that isn't true but it only works if it ruins their reputation. Give examples of Defamation? Jeremy Clarkson got his reputation ruined by the media because they overreacted what happened on the set for top gear when Jeremy ended up hitting the camera man.

Defamation How would Defamation impact your role as a writer for your double page spread and for your front cover? The person that I have spoken about could have a bad reputation because of what I have written about them if I have wrote something bad about them or depending on what people find offensive. I would have to check my facts because if I don’t I can get sued because if was doing a story on the top 5 places to eat and the 5 worst places to eat that can damage their reputation. For example with Bugzy Malone he had a bad past where he sold drugs and maybe if I brought up something that wasn’t true then he could take me to court and sue me for bringing up something in his past or saying something that isn't true.

Confidentiality What is confidentiality, think about this in your role of a writer? Confidentiality is having respect for a person's privacy so that you don’t give out any private information about the person that they don’t want people knowing about. Give examples of confidentiality? News of the world hacked into celebrities social medias and phones and used to listen to their private voicemails that people had left them and spoke about it in the newspaper, they found out that prince William had fallen down the stairs and hurt his knee even though no one had told them so this is when William knew something was wrong.

Confidentiality How would Confidentiality impact your role as a writer for your double page spread and for your front cover? If I give information that is private to the person I have interviewed and they don’t want other people to know about it then this could make the person I interviewed get annoyed and want to be changed because they want all of their details kept confidential. This is about building trust and if I was talking about a sensitive subject to keep that in mind. Even though my story isn't confidential I still have to be careful with what I say and how I word sentences as I have to build trust with my audience and the artists that I have spoken about in my article.

Representation Explain what representation means for you as a writer? Representation targets peoples Gender, Age and Disability for what I am writing about in my article. Give examples of representation? If I spoke about a certain subject some people might find it offensive and might get upset with the fact it is in a magazine.

Representation How would Representation impact your role as a writer for your double page spread and for your front cover? Representation might impact me as a writer because If I upset people with what I write about they might not get the magazine again and they might tell more people not to read it just in case it offends them, this means I will have to be careful with what I am writing about so that this doesn’t happen. The article I am writing about will reach different ethnicity's and cultures, this will also cover different genders in the hip hop, grime and rap community. With Bugzy Malone is more of a grime artist which is what more men listen to rather than women and Li. L Skies is someone that everyone can listen to as he is not in the grime scene his music is for everyone to relate to and relax when they want to.

IPSO What is the IPSO? The Independent Press Standards Organisations make sure that newspapers follow the editors code. They also investigate into any complaints that have been made on a Magazine/Newspaper, they will then look into the complaint and if the person who has made the complaint is telling the truth the newspaper is made to make a new copy of the Magazine/Newspaper and publish it with the correct information. Give examples of the IPSO’s work? Privacy- IPSO make sure that everyone has their own privacy when it comes to their own lives and if they feel like they are not getting the privacy they want they can contact the IPSO and they will get involved the newspaper that is not giving the person the privacy they want.

IPSO How would the work of the IPSO impact your role as a writer for your double page spread and for your front cover? This could impact me as a writer as the IPSO could stop me from being able to publish my articles if I make too many mistakes and if they don’t want to keep having complaints coming through to them about my articles.
