Club History LAVA Volleyball Club was formed in 2011 to address the needs of Livingston County parents and girls to have a club that: ü Is reasonably priced and doesn’t require travel outside of New York to play ü Allows players to focus on school sports first ahead of club requirements. LAVA Volleyball Club believes it has developed a good formula for players wishing to improve their volleyball skills after the season and still be able to participate in other sports with their schools.
Coaching Staff • Our coaching staff includes the following: • Former college players, former LAVA players • Section V Championship coaches • Coaches who have won several league titles

Tryout Process Sessions monitored by a group of volunteer coaches and Advisors. All volunteers coaches and advisors help decide where a player is ultimately placed
Tryout Process • Evaluations based on the following attributes: ü Individual volleyball skills ü Team volleyball play ability ü “Coachability” ü Work ethic and effort ü Overall volleyball potential ü Position availability and need
Tryout Process ü LAVA holds multiple tryout sessions understanding that all players have "bad days" and one session may not allow a player to adequately represent herself
Tryout Process • All players must attend the session they qualify for the 1 st day. • If coaches feel the player needs to play up the family will be contacted. Lava has room for 12 players on each team. A team may have less based on skill level at that age group.
Tryouts Process • Players who are successful at tryouts will be posted on the web site by team. The team’s coach will then contact those players to see if they accept the position and provide information regarding practice and contact information • If a player chooses not to accept a spot Coach Tytler or Coach Butera will reach out to one of the players who weren’t successful to offer them the spot.
Player expectations • As stated earlier practice is 1 night per week. • We expect players to be at practice unless they are participating is a school sport or event that night. • If players are not going to make practice they need to let the coach know in advance!
Player Expectations • If you make a team you are committing to that team and the other players. • It is difficult to build team cohesiveness and skills without the majority of players being present for both tournaments and practice
Parent Expectations • Get your daughter to practice and tournaments on time and pick them up on time. • Prompt payments when they are due. • Encouragement to your daughters and their team!
What about playing time? • Playing time is important to us as it is to you and your daughters. It’s the main reason we limit teams to 12 players. • Club fees go toward practice time and instruction by qualified, experienced coaches, NOT playing time in tournaments • We guarantee a ‘fair’ amount of playing time for every player; this does not necessarily mean an ‘equal’ amount
Playing Time Continued • When considering the amount of playing time that your daughter is receiving , a comparison must be made among players that play the same position
More time is earned by 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Regularly being at practice. Attending Tournaments Working hard to improve Fostering team relationships Executing the skills you have learned when given the opportunity Demonstrating good sportsmanship
Playing time continued Coaches are advised to give everyone fair opportunities to contribute their skills and abilities during tournament pool play matches. When a team advances past pool play, it is the coaches’ discretion and decision to reward players that have excelled during pool play with playing time in these final matches.
