Our question What are consumers’ and health providers’ experiences of working in partnership for the promotion of person-centred health services? • Searching yielded over 13 k potentially relevant studies for answering the question
Selecting only the relevant studies • Must use inclusion and exclusion criteria from the protocol (refer to handout)
Inclusion criteria • At least one consumer in an advisory or representative capacity • At least one health provider in an advisory or representative capacity • The participants meet together in a formal group format • The group meets jointly more than once • The group shares responsibility for a decision • The decision aims to promote person-centred health services
Two steps for selecting studies • Step 1: Title and abstract screening • Step 2: Full-text screening
Definitely in: abstract view
Definitely in: further information from full-text • Governance committee, user assembly and user movement meetings included service users (patients and carers), health professionals, health service administrators • Met more than once (actually over a period of years) • Met face to face • Made decisions about service design and delivery to improve patient centred care, user experience (de. Freitas, 2015)
Definitely out: abstract view
Definitely out: not about partnering with consumers • This research study examines the varying involvement of Canadian ethics consultants in organizational issues, especially during a crisis. • Ethics consultants met with senior managers of health service organisations and with governing boards • We excluded this study because it was not about partnership with service users (patients and carers) (Kaposy 2017)
Maybe in/ out: abstract view
Maybe in/out: about user involvement with healthcare consumers • This research study examines user involvement with healthcare consumers. • It does mention user involvement at institutional and organisational levels. • Would need the full text to find out whether it would fit our stricter criteria for partnerships (e. g. formal group formats, participates in decisionmaking, meets more than once). (Kavcic 2015)
Tips for full-text screening Focus on: • Title • Abstract • Background – last paragraph only • Methods
