CURRICULAR TOPICS • The reading of beginning Latin prose via our textbook Cambridge Latin Course: Unit I and Unit II and various supplemental handouts. • Grammar: - Verbs: four tenses (present, imperfect, pluperfect) - Nouns: all 6 cases - Prepositions and English prefixes • Roman history and the major characters, places, and events of classical history, especially legends involving early Roman heroes • Roman numerals and the number system • Daily life and customs in Pompeii (e. g. , the Roman family, education, entertainment, housing, food etc. ) • English etymology, Latin word roots, and word histories • Famous Latin phrases, abbreviations, and mottoes • Modern connections!!!

ASSESSMENT Each Quarter • QUIZZES 70% - 6 -8 per quarter, including projects • HOMEWORK 30% - ~ 20 assignments per quarter: translation, reading comprehension, handouts, mini “quizzes, ” etc. - Online support via crabbylatin. com • Participation +

QUIZ AND HOMEWORK POLICIES Homework • Every student gets one homework drop per quarter • Missed homework can be made up for half credit only within 5 school days from the originally assigned day. Quizzes • Quizzes can be made up within 5 school days of getting the quiz back (highest grade 70%)
