Roots A root is a word part that can be found at the beginning, the middle, or the end of a word. Each root has a meaning. Many of our roots come from the ancient Latin and Greek languages. Example: A thermometer is a tool used to measure the temperature. -therm- is a root that means heat. -meter- is a root that means measure.
