Last Year of High School! { Class of 2020 }
Early Dismissal / Late Arrival ● MUST be on track with credits ● Can have up to two periods off (can choose just one if you want) ○ ○ ○ 1 st and 2 nd hour Late Arrival 1 st hour Late Arrival; 7 th hour Early Dismissal 6 th and 7 th hour Early Dismissal ● May conflict with schedule if in special programs ● Parent signature REQUIRED on form that went out with 4 -Year Plans ○ ○ Additional forms in counselors’ offices if you need to pick one up Must be returned no later than last day of this school year
Where Should I Be with My Credits? ● Must have at least 19 credits by the start of school next year to be considered a SENIOR ● Can POSSIBLY still graduate on time with credit recovery, etc. , even if you start the year with less than 19 credits (setting appointment to meet with counselor to come up with an individualized plan is critical at this point)
What Can I Do if I Don’t Have Enough Credits? ● Credit Recovery ● Summer School ● Make sure you pass all your classes this semester!! My Resume / Naviance ● Use Naviance to: ○ ○ ○ Search for multiple colleges matching your wants/likes in a college (admission requirements, sororities/fraternities, region, diversity, major, etc) --- Under the College Tab Search and apply for scholarships --- Under the College Tab Request teacher recommendations for college admission --- Under the College Tab ● And starting next Fall, you can use Naviance to: ○ ○ Complete your Game Plan for after High School --- located under the About Me Tab → Post. Secondary Planning Complete your resume for jobs or college admission, add your achievements and clubs you’ve participated in during high school --- located under the About Me Tab ***NOTE: If you plan to enroll in any branch of the armed forces, you should sign up in the counseling office to take the ASVAB on April 18 th!
What Should I Be Doing Now? ● Participate in a SAT/ACT prep program over the summer ● Take the SAT and/or ACT (the more times you take them, the better chance of increasing scores) ○ ○ SAT website: www. collegeboard. org ACT website: www. actstudent. org ● Select top 5 -10 colleges that best meet your needs; try to narrow your list to 46 by August ● Visit college campuses (you get 2 excused days both junior and senior year) ● Come to meeting (date TBD) about Dual-Credit courses to take senior year ● If you are planning to participate in college athletics, review the eligibility guidelines of your governing association (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, etc. )
Start Senior Year out STRONG!!! ● ● ● Check your credits and review your 4 -year plan. Be sure you have all of the required courses and credits for graduation and specific colleges! If you find problems with anything, MEET WITH YOUR COUNSELOR IMMEDIATELY! Review your GPA and class rank. Are you where you thought you were? Does it matter for a college admission or scholarship? Retake the SAT/ACT (pay attention to specific deadlines for colleges/scholarships). Research scholarship opportunities (the counseling office and online sites have a lot of options). Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) starting October 1 st. ○ ○ ● ● FAFSA day for students / FAFSA night for parents: tentatively set for 10/03/19 FAFSA website: www. fafsa. ed. gov Keep going on college visits if you’ve not found the right fit. Finish STRONG with your commitments to community service, work, and family!
