LANCE MODIS • Only Collection 6 processing stream in operation • C 5 stream

LANCE MODIS • Only Collection 6 processing stream in operation • C 5 stream was discontinued at MODAPS and LANCE NRT on March 31, 2016. Extended for three additional months beyond the prior planned date of December 31, 2016 to provide more time for NRT and operational users to transition from C 5 to C 6. • Latency and product quality L 1 B, Geolocation and L 2 products generated within 3 hours after acquisition All daily tiled L 2 G and L 3 products available few hours after the end of the day 8 -day rolling LSR and VI available a day later All L 2 and daily tiles products match to science quality products from MODAPS. Summary available at http: //lance 3. modaps. eosdis. nasa. gov/data_products/comparison_land. php • 8 -day and 16 -day composite products are not expected to match to operational products. • • • LSR and VI use trailing 8 days. Operational processing uses leading 8 days. • BRDF-Albedo retrieved for the leading day of the 16 -day period. Operational processing estimates for the 9 th day of the 16 -day period.

LANCE MODIS • Change in product suite from last year • NRT version of the C 6 daily BRDF-Albedo (PGE 23) became operational at NRT in Sept 2016. • C 6 Mx. DAODHD (PGE 122) is in production since April 1, 2017 • Evapotranspiration: The product became operational at MODAPS in C 6. NRT user base and product accuracy requirement for this product is not clear. So currently not considered. • Status of Flood Product • Discussed the approach to include Flood Product in LANCE-MODIS at the meeting held with Dan Slayback and Frederick Policelli on 4/21. • Delivery of process to generate daily global MWD (MODIS Water Detection) intermediate product expected in May/June 2017. • Final product format and process to generate and distribute the final product are yet to be discussed.

LANCE VIIRS – Current (Operational V 1) • LANCE is currently receiving data from

LANCE VIIRS – Current (Operational V 1) • LANCE is currently receiving data from the processing stream on NRT 3/NRT 4 (AS 5000) • Processes session-based PDS files • Uses NASA L 1, but IDPS Calibration and Geo process for L 1 B and Geo products • Products delivered: L 2 375 m. Fire (VNP 14 IMG) and L 2 G Surface Reflectance (VNP 09 and VNP 09 GA) • Average latency: VNP 09, VNP 14 – ~3 hours, VNP 09 GA – 6 hours after the day is completed. • Granules products are 6 min size • 375 m Fire L 2 G LSR products are HDF 5. All other products are in HDF 4. • Uses LSIPS version of the PGEs (Some of upstream are still IDPS PGEs ported for operation at Land. SIPS with NASA science team recommended changes – Cloud Mask, Aerosol). • NRT products are expected to be near science quality

LANCE VIIRS – Operational V 2 • NRT 3 and NRT 4 will be configured to run operational V 2 PGEs generating LANCE VIIRS products. (Fall 2017) • Will use the session based input • Will use NASA V 2. 0 version of L 1 B/Geo and V 1 PGEs from Land SIPS. (V 2. 0 L 1 B and Geo currently in testing at Land SIPS) • NRT will distribute the NASA L 1 B and Geo • L 2 Fire (375 m) and L 2 G Surface Reflectance processes need to be transitioned to use the NASA L 1 B and Geo. • Expected latency – will more likely remain the same. • Granules are 6 min size. Products designated for public distribution at Land SIPS will be in HDF 5 and so these will be in HDF 5 at NRT also. • All products are expected to be of same science quality as the operational products. • New products will be added as they become operational at Land SIPS – snow, sea-ice, LST, BRDF-Albedo

C 5 is discontinued • MODIS BRDF-Albedo is now operational. • VIIRS L 2 Fire, and L 2 G LSR products currently available to users • Uses the operational V 1 PGEs. • Processes session-based inputs, so latency is 3 -4 hours for L 2 products • Products are expected to match to the operational V 1 products from Land SIPS. • Transition to V 2 expected in Fall 2017 • Will use the V 2. 0 NASA L 1 B/Geo process and the NASA science team V 1 PGEs used by V 1 processing at Land SIPS. • New products (heritage to LANCE MODIS) will be included as the process become operation at Land SIPS
