Mathematics and English-Language Arts • The district curriculum for both Mathematics and English-Language Arts is aligned to the New Illinois Learning Standards. • The Scope and Sequence can be found on the internet at www. sd 308. org (District Departments. Teaching and Learning- Program Directory. Elementary Education- Choose grade level- Choose Mathematics or Literacy).

Ready. GEN 2016 Pearson • This program is designed for college and career readiness. Ready. GEN also incorporates student-centered instruction. • Grades K-2 include 6 units with two modules per unit. Grades 3 -5 include 4 units with two modules per unit. • Each unit has a science or social studies theme and focuses on a variety of reading and writing skills. • Each module has a performance based assessment at the end for students to have an opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the skills for that unit. • Each unit has an assessment that will focus on increased comprehension and text complexity over the course of the school year.

Ø Complexity of text – whole class reads/discusses text together, then in small breakout groups, students will receive reinforcement and extended lessons as needed. (These breakout groups can change on a daily basis. ) Ø Balance with writing that is linked directly with the day’s reading. “Let’s write like the author. ” Ø Knowledge of other disciplines—the text pieces incorporate social studies and science topics within the reading. Ø Word power—Tier One, Two, and Three vocabulary includes academic and domain specific vocabulary.

Homework Policy • Students can expect to receive homework nightly. • Homework is considered

Homework Policy • Students can expect to receive homework nightly. • Homework is considered late if it is not received in the morning. • There will be a point deduction for late work. • Students will have the opportunity to correct and return homework that receives a 70% or lower. The two grades will be averaged. Quizzes and tests are looked at on an individual basis.
