THANK YOU! We would like to begin with first thanking all of our task

THANK YOU! We would like to begin with first thanking all of our task members for dedicating many late nights to do this work. While we are not finished we recognize that you have taken on the responsibility of providing guidance, feedback and collaboration through one of the greatest challenges to face public education. Parents, teachers, support staff, office staff, community members alike have all taken part in this endeavor.

Goals ● Maximizing access to educational experiences for all students ● Support social emotional health and wellbeing of students and staff ● Reduce infection risk on campus to reasonable threshold ● Identify policies that are practical to implement ● Be mindful of the length of time students are wearing masks ● Use of all stakeholder input to drive decision making ● Continue to apply the most updated science and medical guidance possible ● Identify a model that meets goals outlined and is financially doable

Considerations: ● ● Do we know enough to make a decision, or to design a model for reopening school? o If not, what else do you need to know? What are the PHD requirements, guidelines, and then suggestions that you are addressing with your model? We have some community members that live in one county and work in a different county and different counties have a different school reopening and COVID-19 orders, how will that be addressed? What does Lakeside School/District need to provide in order to fully operationalize your selected model of reopening school? o Student safety requirements and procedures o Staff safety requirements and procedures o Facility requirements o Technology issues/concerns if any, for students, staff, school, parents, community Professional development for staff, for parents, and training for students o Preparation time for instructional staff o PPE, handwashing o Restroom access o Access/entry to and from facilities-not addressed o Communication system o Drop off/pickup ● What are the alternatives for parents who do not send their children to school for any time on campus until they believe it is safe for their child to return to public interactions (when a vaccine is available, or other later date/event) ● What do we do for staff members (especially instructional staff) who cannot/will not return to campus with students present? Do we hire new instructional staff? Do we hire substitutes? ● Are there funding issues, concerns, considerations? ● What will be our design for a school closure (as that may well be inevitable)?

STAKEHOLDER SURVEY SUMMARY Overall, parents and staff prefer students back in the classroom, with a combination preferring 5 full days or reduced hybrid model with safety measures in place to reduce the spread of infection. Both parents and staff expressed a strong need to increase safety precautions in order to return to school. A small group of parents indicated a preference to have a full distance learning model.

Members of the task force were divided into 5 groups and asked to analyze

Members of the task force were divided into 5 groups and asked to analyze current reports, guidelines and data to make recommendations. Each group came up with varying hybrid models consisting of 2 cohorts of students (Group A and Group B) in an effort to reduce possible threats of virus transmission. Health, safety, length of day wearing masks, direct access to teachers, supervision and other variables considered in each model. On the next slide you will see a short summary of the models recommended. Within each model lay various challenges such as the need for further staff, further certification of other staff and additional availability of specials/enrichment instructors. Additionally there are possible financial implications Lakeside may not be in position to address.

Hybrid Models Proposed by Task Force Members Group 1 - Hybrid-4 full days, 1

Hybrid Models Proposed by Task Force Members Group 1 - Hybrid-4 full days, 1 planning day, classes split into 2 groups (A/B) on rotating schedules supported by current credentialed teachers-need to hire additional teaching staff for 2 nd cohort Group 2 - Hybrid-4 half days, 1 Group 3 -Hybrid-4 full days, 1 planning day, A/B cohorts rotating every other day or every other week. on an AM/PM schedule. Group 4 - Hybrid-4 full days, 1 planning day, classes split into A/B cohorts, meet with teacher every other day and specials/distance learning w/para support on site every other day-need to rely on non -certificated staff Group 5 -Hybrid-ranging from 2 half days with 3 days distance learning, 4 half days to 5 full days- need for additional staff, increased length of day for students to wear masks, Instructional Staff Aggregate Model 5 half days, afternoons to prep for digital distance learning, A/B cohorts, relies on non-certificated staff-may need additional staff or financing of additional hours

What about families that may need to keep their students home for health considerations?

What about families that may need to keep their students home for health considerations? We have heard from teachers and parents. Both prefer to have students on campus in some capacity, however there are families who may not be able to return to in-person instruction due to a myriad of health concerns. Our task force discussed their needs, legal, moral and ethical considerations and how to best support these families. The takeaway- Lakeside students are Lakeside’s responsibility. The need for a simultaneous digital distance learning curriculum and teacher of record was identified as a need to ensure equitable access to high quality learning for all our district residents. Lakeside’s administrative and instructional team are exploring resources to address this need.

Recommendations continued Health and Safety: Social and Emotional Wellbeing: Students and staff wear masks

Recommendations continued Health and Safety: Social and Emotional Wellbeing: Students and staff wear masks all day on campus SEL Coordinator on site 1 -2 days/week Increase cleaning of facilities throughout the day Acknowledge and support students transition back to school Decreased class sizes to accommodate 6 foot distancing Increased hand washing and sanitizing Limit/restrict visitors on campus Quarantine room for symptomatic students Positively reinforce new safety practices

Examples of Other Issues that Need to be Addressed Alternate after school child care

Examples of Other Issues that Need to be Addressed Alternate after school child care - Due to the financial impact of the shelter in place order and ongoing effects of the current pandemic, the YMCA is currently unable to serve our Lakeside community. Digital distance learning curriculum and teacher of record and additional funding for more paraprofessional support. Equity - Ensuring that students with the most intensive needs have equitable access to their instructional staff. Possible need to close school again - equitable access to instruction delivered digitally/remotely. Professional development and parent training. Ongoing changes in guidance and recommendations from various entities. Fiscal concerns - need for additional staff to facilitate instruction for cohorts in 4 -5 day models.

One thing we have learned about the Novel Coronavirus is that we still do

One thing we have learned about the Novel Coronavirus is that we still do not fully understand this virus. Federal, State and County guidance continue to shift, and upon writing this there may already have been additional changes. The need for additional funding is a reality at Lakeside as well as many other educational agencies. We sincerely ask for everyone’s patience and flexibility as we proceed. We will provide more frequent updates as they become available.
