Who are School Counselors? • School counselors work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and the community to plan, implement, and evaluate developmental guidance and counseling programs for all students. What Do School Counselors Do? • Counsel individuals and small groups of students to meet identified needs. • Deliver the guidance curriculum and assist teachers with the school’s guidance curriculum. • Consult with parents, teachers, and other staff regarding concerns about students’ needs. • Coordinate people and resources in the schools and in the community for the benefit of students. • Participate in planning, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program to serve all students. • Provide staff development and training. • Know about and adhere to the ethical, legal and professional standards of the counseling profession.

Tiffani Spencer 6 th Grade Counselor • Tiffani Dawne Spencer was born in St. Augustine, Florida and raised in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Spencer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and a Masters degree in Counseling. She taught for six years in Houston Independent School District and is currently a school counselor in Fort Bend Independent School District. She is entering her seventeenth year in education and her eleventh as a school counselor. Constance Goodly 7 th Grade Counselor • Constance Goodly is originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana. She received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies from Mc. Neese State University (2003) and her Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston-Victoria (2009). She is entering her nineteenth year in education and her 9 th year as a school counselor. TAMMY BYRD 8 th GRADE COUNSELOR/LEAD • Tammy Byrd is a native Houstonian! She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Southern University. She later attended Prairie View A&M University where she earned Master’s Degrees in Counseling, Educational Administration and Marriage and Family Therapy. Ms. Byrd twenty-two year educational career began in Fort Bend ISD in 1998. Seventeen of those years have been as a school counselor, which she is very passionate about and enjoys. I love being a school counselor because I enjoy helping students set goals, address challenges, improve social skills, and plan for the future. My favorite thing about being a school counselor is getting to build relationships with students and staff. Mrs. Spencer I love so many things about being a school counselor! My favorite thing is getting to know my students and staff! I love being able to provide students with the social emotional skills they need to be successful! There is no greater feeling in the world than having a career that allows me to see my students realize their potential and grow! Ms. Byrd I love being a school counselor because I have a passion for helping others. Every year I get to be in the presence of incredible potential. ONLINE LEARNING • If your family does not have everything required for online learning contact us. • Your success is our goal. Please utilize Lake Olympia’s website, along with your teachers’ websites and the resources they provide to you to maintain constant communication to ensure your success. • Skyward Family Access is an important tool for parents and students. You can check grades, fill out forms, receive messages from teachers and much more! PLEASE make sure you have updated your email address in Skyward.

Virtual Learning Synchronous Instruction vs. Asynchronous • Synchronous Learning: the teacher is live online providing instruction in real time • Asynchronous Learning: students are independently working on assignments and information provided by teachers • Students will participate in both synchronous and asynchronous instruction each school day.

Grading • Students grades will be reported online in Skyward. • End of 1 st Nine Weeks: October 9 th • Beginning of 2 nd 9 Weeks: October 12 th • End of 2 nd 9 Weeks (end of first semester): December 18 th • Beginning of 3 rd 9 Weeks: January 6 th • End of 3 rd 9 Weeks: March 12 th • Beginning of 4 th 9 Weeks: March 22 nd • End of 4 th 9 Weeks (end of school year): May 26 th

• On the first day of school check your child’s schedule in Skyward! • Do you have 7 classes and a class for each period? • Do you have your four core classes (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies) and one PE/Health class? • Do you have two electives (this includes lab classes)? – Why do I have a lab? You have been selected to participate in a lab because we want to support you in reaching your academic goals! • If you are missing a class period please contact your grade level counselor.
