LAWMA AT A GLANCE q LAWMA has 1, 157 staff strength to manage waste generated by 22 million people q LAWMA collects and transports domestic, commercial and medical waste through the 365 Private Service Participants (PSP) q LAWMA collects and transports Solid Waste directly from highways and major streets across the state q LAWMA sweeps 195 routs (highways and major streets) in the state through Private Service Providers. Over 200 companies and 4, 500 staff are in use.
q LAWMA collects Solid Waste on Lagoons and Waterways through 53 Private Service Providers with 320 staff q LAWMA takes care of waste in 1, 791 Public Schools within the 6 Educational Districts of the state q LAWMA disposes 12, 000 metric tons of Solid Waste per day in the Four (4) landfill sites across the state q LAWMA uses Four (4) Mechanical Workshops (IDDO Central Workshop, Mushin, Ikeja and Ogudu) for the maintenance of fleets, light/heavy trucks, plants and other operational/utility equipments
2016 PROJECTION PLAN 1. PUBLIC WASTE Redistribution of Street Sweeping Operations for better performance b. Realignment of PSP Domestic Waste Operations for sustainability of the service c. Evaluation of current school sanitation programme for better coverage d. Establishment of independent monitoring team for public waste collection and road sweeping e. Establishment of full fledge enforcement to ensure duty of care and payment for waste a.
2. TRANSFER LOADING STATION a. Refurbishment of the TLSs equipment b. Installation of waste sorting facilities in Agege TLS c. Construction of new Transfer Loading Stations with waste sorting facilities d. Quarterly fumigation of TLS sites e. Reactivation of odour control system in all TLSs
3. LANDFILL SITES (OLUSHOSUN, SOLOUS, EWU-ELEPE AND EPE) a. Capping of waste in all sites to reduce odour and fire outbreaks b. Rehabilitation of all access roads in all LAWMA dumpsites c. Creation of four new tipping phases and drainage channels d. Creation of six leachate ponds
4. COMMERCIAL a. Fabrication i. Fabricate 30 units of Dino bins ii. Fabrication of elevator platform for TATA Mini-Ace c. Upgrade/Rehabilitation i. Rehabilitation of washing bay at headquarters, Mushin, Ogudu and Ikeja workshops ii. Rehabilitation/upgrade of machine shop in the headquarter d. Training i. Training of PSP drivers ii. 6. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Waste is “nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to disperse because we’ve been ignorant of their values”; It is also said that “equipment made waste management Easy” and equipment based on home technology is the best”. Hence, in LAWMA we Carry out research and study on the following to improve on our CORE SERVICE AREAS : i. iii. iv. v. vi. waste characterization study for the State; study on waste generation per capita in the State design and fabrication of sweeping machines for sweeping some high risk roads across the State. Design and fabrication of sorting machines in all transfer loading stations for material recovery design and fabrication of e-waste management equipment for treatment of electronic waste in the State. design and fabrication of lagoon weed and waste harvester for clearing of waste and weed on lagoon.
